A side-by-side editorial comparison of Libredesk and Xurrent — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Libredesk's v2.9 release candidates add WhatsApp, email aliases and cited AI replies.
Libredesk, an open-source helpdesk, is shipping v2.9.0 as a run of release candidates, while the Docker latest tag stays on v2.8.0. rc.8 added a WhatsApp inbox, proactive live-chat messages, a help center inside the widget, AI tools in copilot that need agent approval, and an installable app. rc.9 adds email aliases, help-center citations on AI replies, and tighter session and visibility controls.
Xurrent's October update widens from agent governance into problem management.
Xurrent ITSM ships monthly update documents that grow week by week. September delivered six specialized Sera AI Agents plus Jamf CMDB and native ClickUp integrations. The October document now pairs agent controls (scoping in Agent Designer, an Agent Actions inbox) with core ITSM work: problem tasks, closing linked requests from a problem's resolution, team mentions in notes, and a native Outlook connector for iPaaS.

The product is spreading beyond email into WhatsApp and in-widget self-service. Its AI features are being built to stay checkable: copilot tools need agent approval and replies link to their sources. Each RC also closes access gaps, such as sessions surviving password changes and agents seeing conversations they shouldn't.
The next likely step is a stable v2.9.0 that moves the latest tag off v2.8.0. The two visible RCs don't show when that will happen.

Sera is moving from a single assistant to a managed multi-agent system, built in order: guardrails and audit logs in August, the agents in September, scoping and an actions inbox in October. In parallel, problem management and inbox workflows keep getting deeper, and each month adds another iPaaS connector, which positions Xurrent as an ITSM coordination layer.
Expect the rest of October to add more iPaaS connectors and further problem-management work, with Sera agents extended into those workflows; the entries don't show which agent workflows come next.
