Two identity vendors shipped agent authorization the same week — the control plane is arriving
The lead
Auth0 moved Cross App Access into open early access — an open standard for passing authorization between applications and AI agents, aimed first at resource apps that expose MCP servers. WorkOS arrived at the same place from the other side: a Management MCP server covering hundreds of operations, an API Gateway unifying API-key and user auth at the edge, and a one-click plugin for Claude and ChatGPT. Two identity vendors, same window, same conclusion — the open question is no longer whether an agent can reach your API, it's who authorized it and how that gets revoked.
This brief has led with agent connectivity for several days running. Today the story moves up a layer. GitHub pairs every Copilot expansion with an admin policy surface: the cloud agent became assignable from Linear, then got a dedicated app access policy. Unleash spent the window arguing the feature flag is the runtime kill switch for code an agent wrote. CloudZero is narrowing from cloud cost to metering AI spend specifically. Snorkel AI has turned "measurement lags capability" into a product line of benchmarks. Access, governance, cost, evaluation — four vendors building the same control plane, roughly in that order.
What moved
- Identity and policy. Auth0's XAA covers resource apps exposing MCP servers and APIs; WorkOS pushed auth onto three surfaces it didn't own a month ago — the edge, the browser, and the agent client. GitHub's real tell is sequencing: agent reach ships, then the enterprise toggle for it.
- The MCP tail lengthened again. Nifty ended a five-month rearchitecting pause with an MCP server — the first thing that rewrite produced. Zoho Recruit opened its ATS to natural-language queries, Restream let an assistant create streams and read analytics, Nuxt shipped a docs-grounded agent behind its own server, and Bonsai, Zoho Mail and Ubersuggest went the same way.
- Agents got higher-stakes decisions. Workyard's Time Assistant now reallocates hours across jobs and cost codes, not just clock times — that is job-costing data, kept behind a review gate. Hive's AI Proofing started checking whether earlier human comments were actually addressed. Plain's Sidekick now starts on a matching thread before anyone opens it. Lime Connect wired its agent into its workflow engine so it acts inside defined processes rather than answering beside them.
- Serving and measurement. Baseten started selling a Fast tier aimed at long-running agentic workloads rather than catalog freshness. Telnyx began scoring assistants already in production. AWS Machine Learning's Bedrock posts now read as agent-operations blueprints with error rates attached. OpenRouter's Classifiers tags every generation against a customer-defined taxonomy — attribution built above the router.
- Not about agents at all. Shopify spent July retiring its own constraints: the 8-currency cap on Payments bank accounts, one-discount-per-item, single-source collections. Each removal deletes a reason to install someone else's app.
Sectors today
- Devtools — the day's center of gravity: identity, flags, and Daytona's sandbox security and lifecycle grind, all aimed at agents.
- AI assistants — infrastructure rather than models: serving tiers, routing economics, evaluation.
- Development — GitHub and Nuxt both shipping agent surfaces alongside stable-API groundwork.
- Project management — Nifty's MCP payoff and Bonsai's merged document builder; Sugar Calendar continues its slow event-plugin rebuild.
- HR and recruiting — the sector most eager to name its agents (Eightfold AI's Candidate Agent, Workyard's Time Assistant) while Lattice and Tanda grind on reviews and rosters.
- Ecommerce — Shopify removing limits, Spree Commerce hardening its TypeScript SDK, ShipHero closing mobile-to-console gaps.
- Collaboration — Hive's proofing loop, plus Teable adding the audit logging an admin needs to govern its AI app builder.
- Communication — Telnyx pulling the voice stack in-house, Stalwart grinding standards conformance, Zoho Mail exposing the inbox to agents.
- Customer support — Plain and Front both spending their AI budget on control: which tools, which facts, which sources.
- Analytics — Lightdash turned data apps into an extension surface and scoped agent answers to verified content only.
- Design, CRM, video, marketing, finance, marketing automation — thin: Restream, Animaker, Lime Connect and CloudZero carried the real news; the rest of those feeds were SEO content.
Watch tomorrow
Three near-term tells. Whether Auth0 ships the consuming-app half of XAA — today's release covers only the resource side — and whether WorkOS's MCP server gains the scoped read-only permissions its new dashboard roles just introduced. Whether GitHub's agent-automation controls in Issues leave public preview. And whether Nifty extends MCP coverage into permission granularity; its own launch entry already hedges write access behind user consent. Separately, a sizable share of today's feed carried no product signal at all: Apache Superset's tracked feed follows Helm chart packaging rather than the BI product, Cin7, Printful, Metricool, Celoxis and Shiprocket run content mills, and Firefly III publishes nightly develop tags. Those are crawl-source problems, not quiet products.
