Agents get user-scoped permissions as Claude Duet opens and GitHub retires PAT reliance
The lead
The day's pattern is agents getting identity and permissions rather than just capability. Mattermost v12 has agents act with the requesting user's access instead of a shared service account, with an audit trail per action. GitHub made enterprise-wide GitHub Apps generally available, giving admins a path off classic personal access tokens, and Wiki.js 3 beta.705 ties a built-in MCP server to refined token scopes.
The biggest single spark is Claude: on October 21 it opened Claude Duet, a separate proactive-agent app, as a research preview for Pro and Max subscribers. It is the first product move since the 5.5 tier rollout finished. Of 169 products with fresh commentary, most were incremental, so these are the threads that carry direction.
What moved
- Agent surfaces and MCP access: Duet leads. NocoDB 2026.10.0 lets MCP clients connect by signing in, with no token to copy and no more access than the user's role. Fibery's MCP server can now upload local files, and Gumloop 13.0 rebuilds its agent harness for longer jobs and adds organization-wide agent evaluations.
- Governance and reporting for AI tooling: GitHub Copilot's usage metrics now name custom agents, MCP servers and outside tools such as OpenCode. Double's Ask Double can read and post in Microsoft Teams after user confirmation. Stigg released an open-source Agent Governance SDK built on its entitlements engine.
- Infrastructure rewrites: Rivet 3.0 Preview becomes a single stateless binary with S3 as its only dependency, using a new storage engine called WarpDrive. The entry gives no performance numbers, so the SSD-speed claim is unverified.
- Tooling consolidation: Bun 1.4.4 adds bun fmt, a Prettier-compatible formatter, two weeks after bun check. CodeRabbit's Deep Scan can now produce reproducer guides and run findings to check they are real.
- Migration and packaging: Softr adds a one-click path off Airtable. Readwise splits its bundle into Reader-only and Highlights-only plans.
Sectors today
- Devtools (45 products): CircleCI now shows in GitHub checks who re-ran a workflow and why it is on hold, and Payload CMS 4.0 beta 4 raises the Node minimum.
- Development (18): build tooling and agent runtimes dominate, with Rivet, Bun and CodeRabbit setting the tone.
- Analytics (19): Holistics lets admins set a key dashboard on everyone's Home page, and Fulcrum turns on its Insights assistant for every customer.
- Collaboration (16): MCP and chat-first workflows spread, from Teable's Cmd+K palette and routines to Wiki.js page ownership.
- AI assistants (8): LobeChat canary.3 adds Projects with a lead agent, and Ollama v0.40.11 adds local speech output on macOS.
- HR and recruiting (9): Tanda locks bank-detail edits to payroll staff, and Workyard adds a Reporting Agent that builds reports from live crew data.
- Project management (8): SmartSuite adds a scheduled JavaScript runtime with secrets and run history, and NocoBase 3.0's CLI shares private packages across workspaces.
Watch tomorrow
Watch whether Duet gets any widening beyond Pro and Max, since the entries show a research preview and nothing about Team or Enterprise plans. Expect more token-scope and audit detail from Mattermost, Wiki.js and GitHub as the agent-identity theme continues. Rivet should publish benchmarks or migration notes for 2.x users during the preview. One data note: Wiki.js appears twice in the feed, as Wiki.js and as the Wiki.js entry above, with near-identical beta.705 commentary, which looks like crawl-source duplication rather than two releases.
