Fulcrum is consolidating on Esri, with Google Maps gone September 1

field-data-collectionesri-arcgisoffline-mapsmobile-releasesmigration
Current state
The mapping stack is the whole story right now: ArcGIS SDK 300.0.0 on iOS, the latest ArcGIS and deck.gl on web, and a hard cutover date after which any organization still defaulting to Google Maps is switched to Esri automatically. The mobile releases in this window are almost entirely map and location fixes — basemap loading, offline symbol styling, location resolution that blocked saves. On-device inference quietly changed format, dropping ONNX.
Where it's heading
One platform bet runs through everything: Esri as the single map engine, with Google's satellite, hybrid, and street imagery retained as basemap options so the migration costs users imagery choice, not capability. The current release cadence is stabilization work paying down that migration rather than new ground.
Prediction
Expect map and location fixes to keep dominating releases through the September 1 cutover, with the Esri-only capabilities already listed — snapping, ArcGIS Feature Service connectivity, offline basemaps — becoming the default surface rather than the alternative one.

Recent moves

iOS fix for slow location resolution blocking saves

A single fix for records that could not be saved when location was required but slow to resolve. Routine stabilization in the run of location work following the ArcGIS upgrades.

  2. 5d ago

Map engine updated to the latest ArcGIS and deck.gl

The web app takes the same map-stack upgrade the mobile apps have been absorbing, plus clearer SSO auto-add notifications for org owners. It keeps web and mobile on one Esri baseline ahead of the cutover.

  3. 6d ago

Android stability fixes for ArcGIS location and signatures

Stability fixes for ArcGIS location services, an obscured signature confirmation button, and photo markup on low-resource devices. Field-reliability cleanup, nothing new exposed.

  4. 6d ago

iOS basemap loading and map-centering fixes

Basemap loading reliability and a fix for the location button failing to center the map or blacking out the map screen. More fallout cleanup from the ArcGIS SDK move.

ArcGIS SDK 300.0.0 lands; ONNX inference support removed

Two platform changes in one point release: the mapping integration moves to ArcGIS SDK 300.0.0, and on-device inference drops ONNX in favour of a new format with labels read from an uploaded labels.txt. Anyone running ONNX models in the field has to repackage them.

Offline ArcGIS layers keep custom symbols and labels

Offline ArcGIS feature layers keep their custom symbols and labels instead of reverting to default styling, plus a map attribution placement fix. Migration-era bug fixing.
