The lead

Three projects shipped the far end of a rewrite today, and no two of them the same way. Kata Containers 4.0.0 makes the Rust runtime the default, completing a handover the 3.2x series had staged for a year. dbt Core's Rust engine crossed alpha to its first beta the same day with catalog-free SQL binding — but the 1.x Python line is still GA. Komga 1.26.0 put a rewritten web interface in front of users and left the old one in charge, serving both from one server behind a published list of what the new one still lacks.

Tracecat beta.51 made the Action Gateway mandatory for every self-hosted deployment; Apache Drill 1.22.0 reset the floor to Java 11/17/21 and dropped Hadoop 2; Ably's AI Transport SDK ships breaking changes every ten days, pre-1.0.
  • Model files became attack surface. ThingsBoard's notes read as a CVE ledger twenty to thirty deep, one recurring class being SSRF through AI model provider URLs. Apache OpenNLP runs three branches with one shared job: making model archives safe to load, after XXE, arbitrary class instantiation and untrusted deserialization. Around it an ordinary wave: OpenEXR's three branches tagged inside two minutes for 40 CVEs, Routinator's four from an X41 audit, Aerospike's identical fixes across four branches in two hours, Ever Gauzy's ten releases in seven.
  • AI moved to the intake layer. Financial Cents's AI File Validator checks client uploads against the request, accounting period and client record before the firm sees them.   • Registering inside runtimes they don't own. Atlassian shipped Jira MCP and an OpenAI Symphony integration putting Jira under Codex orchestration as system of record; AWeber joined Claude's connector directory; Zoho Social, MeisterTask and SalesBlink exposed management surfaces over MCP; GitHub Copilot's usage metrics API now counts third-party agent apps from Claude and Codex.

Kata 4.0.0 is the live test of the lead: a default flip is only real if the 4.0.x patches behind it aren't spent chasing it. Same question, slower, for dbt's Fusion beta and Komga's gap list — does either move its default, or quietly extend the parallel period? authentik's rc7 holds the substance of the 2026.8.0 train with no rc8 yet, Tracecat has opened beta.52's candidate run, and containerd's 2.4 beta joins five older branches still taking backports.
