Xurrent and Live Helper Chat give support agents scoped permissions while handoff bugs surface at LiveAgent
The week in customer-support
Support software is converging on agents with permissions. Xurrent lets staff approve tasks inside Sera AI chat while its October update adds agent scoping in Agent Designer, and Live Helper Chat exposes an MCP endpoint so Claude, ChatGPT connectors and other hosts can connect to a self-hosted installation. The question has moved from whether AI answers tickets to how it is scoped, approved and handed off.
Handoff is the hard part, and it shows up in the maintenance notes. LiveAgent spent a week fixing chats stuck in Chatting after a chatbot-to-human handoff.
Leaders
Xurrent delivered six specialized Sera AI Agents in September alongside a Jamf CMDB integration and a native ClickUp connector. The October update adds problem tasks, one-step completion of linked requests when a problem is resolved, and approvals inside chat.
Live Helper Chat shipped MCP support in 4.92v, then spent two releases on security: 4.95v hardened outbound bot calls against SSRF and DNS rebinding. Operator offline reasons, team leads and priority ranges for the standard queue continue the operations work.
Formbricks is hardening its 6.1 release candidate, which brings the v3 responses API and MCP read and write scopes for responses. The 6.0 cycle capped unlicensed self-hosted installs at one workspace, a commercial reset arriving alongside agent access.
DoneDone shipped custom fields across ten types and its first workflow automations, where a status change can set a due date and attach a checklist template. A newer release lets one email connection feed many Mailboxes, routed by filter priority.
Wildcards
LiveAgent released 5.69.5 with the controls an AI chat operator needs next to humans, including a typing indicator and a Take over from the bot button, then spent the following builds repairing stuck handoffs, translation failures on HTML emails and attachment downloads after an email migration.
tawk.to is a free widget that opened up two JavaScript APIs in September and keeps tightening pre-chat forms, with custom number and date fields and US consent notices.
Themes that compounded
- MCP endpoints on self-hosted and survey tools: Live Helper Chat and Formbricks.
- Agent governance: scoping and in-chat approval at Xurrent.
- Structure for small teams: custom fields and routing at DoneDone.
- Maintenance-heavy cadences at ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, whose recent builds fixed assets, reports and the requester portal and decoupled welcome emails from SAML.
Watch this week
Watch the LiveAgent 5.69 line for whether handoff fixes stop, since two builds in a row were stability work. Also watch Formbricks' 6.1 release candidate for a stable tag, and Xurrent's October document, which grows week by week.
