Respond.io is turning its AI Agents into the default responder and loosening the phone number as identity.
The AI Agent is where most of the product work is landing. Meanwhile the contact model is being decoupled from the phone number, with BSUIDs flowing through webhooks and the Developer API so integrations can map Contacts that never share one. Channel additions are increasingly scored as automation surfaces: Story mentions and Growth Widgets both ship with new Workflow trigger variables rather than as inbox features alone.

Expect the wait-time and assignment awareness to be followed by more human-like handoff controls between AI Agents and human agents, and BSUID-only Contacts to force more of the identity and merge tooling that phone-number matching used to handle implicitly.
