What is Memos?

Memos is turning a personal note store into an agent-addressable, private-by-default service

The release candidates in this window carry unusually heavy changes for a self-hosted note app: an embedded MCP endpoint exposing memo CRUD, comments, attachments and tags to AI clients; live updates over server-sent events; revocable share links; and a browser Web Clipper for saving pages and selections as Markdown. A parallel candidate makes instances without an explicit instance URL run in private mode and rewrites filters onto CEL timestamps.

What is Slack?

Slack's app platform is being rebuilt around agents, with the SDKs clearing old ground behind it.

Slack's developer changelog currently runs on two tracks. One is agent infrastructure: agent apps now receive context about whatever channel, DM, thread, canvas, or list the user has open when they message the app, and a new manifest-declared messaging experience defines how agents converse. The other is SDK maintenance at a steady clip — Bolt for JS v5, a batch of Node Slack SDK majors, and three CLI releases inside a month.

Memos is turning a personal note store into an agent-addressable, private-by-default service

◆ Current state

The release candidates in this window carry unusually heavy changes for a self-hosted note app: an embedded MCP endpoint exposing memo CRUD, comments, attachments and tags to AI clients; live updates over server-sent events; revocable share links; and a browser Web Clipper for saving pages and selections as Markdown. A parallel candidate makes instances without an explicit instance URL run in private mode and rewrites filters onto CEL timestamps.

◆ Where it's heading

Two directions are converging. One is machine access — MCP moved from a stateful server with prompts and resources to a stateless, tools-only endpoint generated from the OpenAPI schema, which is a deliberate narrowing toward something agents can call reliably. The other is defaults that assume the instance is private until an admin says otherwise. Together they reposition Memos from a personal web app to a small API-shaped service with a human UI on top.

◆ Prediction

Expect the MCP surface to stabilise against the OpenAPI schema as the source of truth and the private-by-default posture to carry into a general release, with clients that relied on prompts, resources or unprefixed tool names needing to migrate.

◆ Current state

Slack's developer changelog currently runs on two tracks. One is agent infrastructure: agent apps now receive context about whatever channel, DM, thread, canvas, or list the user has open when they message the app, and a new manifest-declared messaging experience defines how agents converse. The other is SDK maintenance at a steady clip — Bolt for JS v5, a batch of Node Slack SDK majors, and three CLI releases inside a month.

◆ Where it's heading

The expansion is happening on the agent side while the SDK work removes rather than adds: axios swapped for native Fetch, Workflow Steps from Apps deleted, Node 20 set as the floor. Alongside that, a new Block Kit container block and the switch to pulling desktop notification text from blocks first both push more of the app experience into structured, app-rendered surfaces. Read together, Slack is moving the platform's center of gravity from configured workflow automation toward apps that hold a conversation with context.

◆ Prediction

Expect the next platform releases to widen what agents can receive and render — more context surfaces passed automatically and more Block Kit primitives to display results — while the CLI and SDKs keep their current maintenance cadence.
