A side-by-side editorial comparison of Ferndesk and Twilio — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Ferndesk moves its help-center answers into every reply box with a Chrome extension.
Ferndesk is an AI help-center platform whose assistant, Fern, writes and maintains the docs as well as answering from them. Since August it has shipped MCP access, a reworked public API, PR-drafted changelogs, article verification, GraphQL API references and section-level access control. The latest release adds a Chrome extension that pulls answers into any reply box, plus tone and scope settings for the AI assistant.
Twilio ships GA reconnect and mid-call config for Conversation Relay voice agents.
Twilio's newest directional move is still Cohorts, a private-beta set of APIs for building lists and triggering bulk sends across email, SMS, RCS and WhatsApp. Since then it has shipped account-level controls for webhooks, call recording and caller registration. The latest entry moves to voice AI: Conversation Relay gains GA support for mid-call configuration, WebSocket reconnect, agent echo prompt filtering and ElevenLabs v4 Turbo voices.

Ferndesk is pushing its docs out of the help center and into wherever answers get written: AI tools through MCP, WhatsApp handoffs, and now any text box in the browser. Fern's role keeps widening too, from answering to drafting changelogs, verifying articles and tidying structure. The help center is becoming the source of truth that other surfaces read from.
Expect more distribution surfaces, such as further chat-channel handoffs or helpdesk integrations, built on the same extension and widget foundation. The entries show no pricing change attached to these features.

Twilio is moving up from delivery pipes toward owning the audience and the send decision, while making its plumbing configurable by API. Conversation Relay adds a second thread: the features it just took to GA are about keeping a live AI voice call working when a socket drops or a prompt echoes back.
Expect more Conversation Relay voice options and Cohorts widening beyond private beta. The entries don't show Cohorts pricing or a GA date.
