Aseprite vs Lyssna: at a glance
What is Aseprite?
Aseprite 1.3.18.x stabilizes tilemap editing and macOS performance after a major release
Aseprite is in a maintenance phase following the 1.3.18 release, addressing bugs and edge cases concentrated in tilemap operations, macOS performance (slowing over time), Linux X11 behavior, and Lua API reliability. Multiple patch releases addressed tilemap copy/paste across layers — a feature that shipped in 1.3.18 but needed several iterations to cover all edge cases. The project ships on a tight patch cadence for a solo-team pixel art editor.
What is Lyssna?
Lyssna connects its UX research data to AI agents via MCP, making participant findings directly queryable from Claude and ChatGPT.
Lyssna is a UX research platform that launched a Model Context Protocol server in beta in July 2026, allowing Claude and ChatGPT to query research data directly in natural language. The platform continues expanding its test types — tree tests now support multiple tasks per tree, and card sorting has gained a hybrid mode. Transcript features (export, bulk download, third-party study routing) are a recurring improvement theme.

Aseprite
5.0DESIGN
Aseprite 1.3.18.x stabilizes tilemap editing and macOS performance after a major release
◆ Current state
Aseprite is in a maintenance phase following the 1.3.18 release, addressing bugs and edge cases concentrated in tilemap operations, macOS performance (slowing over time), Linux X11 behavior, and Lua API reliability. Multiple patch releases addressed tilemap copy/paste across layers — a feature that shipped in 1.3.18 but needed several iterations to cover all edge cases. The project ships on a tight patch cadence for a solo-team pixel art editor.
◆ Where it's heading
The 1.3.18 series added Preferences search, faster undo/redo, Lua eyedropper support, and a custom file format API — the current patch cycle is stabilizing those additions. Architecture refactors in 1.3.18 for new layer types haven't yet surfaced as user-facing capabilities; that work is foundation for a future release. The .psd custom format support (via extension API) in 1.3.18.4 hints at an expanding extension ecosystem.
◆ Prediction
v1.3.19 will introduce new layer type functionality — the architecture changes in 1.3.18 are explicitly described as foundation work for new layer types that haven't shipped yet.
Lyssna
6.3DESIGN
Lyssna connects its UX research data to AI agents via MCP, making participant findings directly queryable from Claude and ChatGPT.
◆ Current state
Lyssna is a UX research platform that launched a Model Context Protocol server in beta in July 2026, allowing Claude and ChatGPT to query research data directly in natural language. The platform continues expanding its test types — tree tests now support multiple tasks per tree, and card sorting has gained a hybrid mode. Transcript features (export, bulk download, third-party study routing) are a recurring improvement theme.
◆ Where it's heading
The MCP server is the clearest directional signal in Lyssna's recent history: research data is being positioned as a structured source for AI-assisted synthesis rather than requiring manual export and prompting. The Labs feature for third-party study participants shows Lyssna is also building toward panel access beyond its own test types.
◆ Prediction
Lyssna will expand MCP capabilities beyond read-only query toward automated insight surfacing — likely enabling AI to flag key findings or anomalies across study data without explicit analyst prompting.
