User research and usability testing platform for design and product teams

Lyssna is unbundling its participant panel from its test builder, then went quiet after June.

Current state
Lyssna publishes a monthly digest, and the crawled record runs January through June 2026 before stopping. The visible work splits between the interview workflow, which gained per-session Google Meet links, screener answers on calendar events and rescheduling limits, and the test builder, which picked up autosave, hybrid card sorting, question previews and customizable screener messages. May's Labs release is the outlier: third-party studies let customers recruit Lyssna panel participants for unmoderated research run on other platforms.
Where it's heading
Two things move at once here. The unmoderated test builder is being matured, with autosave, previews, RTL support and bulk transcript export closing gaps rather than opening ground. The more consequential shift is the panel separating from the tooling: if researchers can buy Lyssna participants for studies hosted elsewhere, the panel becomes a business rather than a feature. AI follow-up questions already exist and appear only in bug-fix lines, so that surface is established, not expanding.
Prediction
If third-party studies graduate out of Labs, expect panel recruitment to acquire its own pricing and quota controls separate from test subscriptions. The two-month silence since June leaves the near-term roadmap unreadable.

Recent moves

Google Meet links generated automatically for interview sessions

The June digest is interview-workflow plumbing: a Google Meet integration mints a unique link per session, the results sidebar scrolls independently, Figma prototype imports handle rate limits more clearly, and the headphone warning can be removed for silent video files. Steady maturity work on the moderated side, with no change in direction.

Third-party studies open the Lyssna panel to research hosted elsewhere

    ⚡ SPARK

May carries the window's one directional move: third-party studies, a Labs feature that recruits Lyssna panel participants for unmoderated research hosted on other platforms, reached through a new Lyssna Panel entry in the navigation. The rest of the release is core maturity, with test-builder autosave, longer Five Second Test exposure, and screener answers surfaced on interview calendar events.

Bulk transcript download and interview rescheduling limits

April adds a one-click download of every transcript in a test section, packaged as a ZIP with untranscribed recordings processed first, plus a cap on how many times an interview session can be rescheduled. Both target the operational drag of running studies at volume rather than the research capability itself.

Hybrid card sorting mixes predefined and participant-made categories

Hybrid card sorting lets researchers seed a starting structure while still letting participants invent their own categories, which is a genuine addition to the method set rather than a UI change. The rest of March is question-block redesign and better right-to-left language support.

Customizable screener messages and per-question previews

February lets researchers rewrite the introduction, screened-in and screened-out messages shown to self-recruited participants, and adds a preview button to every survey question type in mobile and desktop views. Recording renaming rounds it out. Control over the participant-facing experience, incremental but real.

Participant progress bar and a customer referral program

January pairs a participant-facing progress bar with a referral program offering 30% off a referee's first payment and a $40 gift card to the referrer. The referral mechanics are the first sign in this window of Lyssna working on distribution rather than the product, which the May panel release later takes much further.
