A side-by-side editorial comparison of OpenPanel and Tinybird — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
OpenPanel's tracked releases are maintenance: a saved-report fix and a CI Node bump.
The three tracked OpenPanel releases carry no new analytics features. The most recent fixes saved reports so they keep their filter type and cohort ids when reloaded. The other two tags publish the same commit, which moves CI to Node 22.20.0 to match the runtime Docker images after undici 8 broke two test suites on Node 20.
Tinybird's weekly drop turns to admin controls: bulk member removal and cluster logs.
Tinybird ships a changelog every Friday, alternating between MCP tooling for LLM access and operational controls for its ClickHouse-based stack. The October 9 release lets organization admins remove several members at once from the UI or API, adds cluster protection logs for dedicated clusters and records failed Sink jobs in sinks_ops_log. The week before brought secondary indexes, a configurable deduplication window and a 4KiB page-size requirement for arm64 Tinybird Local.

The visible work is about keeping the self-hosted build and the hosted product in step: CI now runs the same Node version as the shipped images, and saved-report state is being made reliable. Three entries are too thin a record to show where the feature roadmap is going.
The entries don't show a feature direction, so the next move is unclear; more self-hosting and report-persistence fixes are the only pattern visible so far.

The product is moving from 'real-time analytics API' toward a managed data backend that both developers and LLM agents can query, now with organization-scale administration on top. MCP tooling covers the agent side; secondary indexes, dedup windows and on-demand Copy Pipe compute cover the operator side; bulk member management and dedicated-cluster logs point at larger, multi-team customers. With Classic gone, the backlog is about tuning and governing v1 rather than migrating to it.
Expect more organization-level and observability controls alongside further MCP refinements; the entries don't show whether MCP will gain write or ingest operations.
