A side-by-side editorial comparison of Holistics and OpenPanel — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Holistics is pulling analysis out of Explore and onto the dashboard itself.
In one week Holistics shipped AI Tasks (reusable, scheduled AI jobs), AI Block narratives on dashboards, file attachments in AI chat, and Cost Analytics for AI spend. Since then it has reworked AI dashboard building in Reporting, added an HTML layout beta, and let viewers add reference lines and trend lines to dashboard charts without opening the Explore modal.
OpenPanel's tracked releases are maintenance: a saved-report fix and a CI Node bump.
The three tracked OpenPanel releases carry no new analytics features. The most recent fixes saved reports so they keep their filter type and cohort ids when reloaded. The other two tags publish the same commit, which moves CI to Node 22.20.0 to match the runtime Docker images after undici 8 broke two test suites on Node 20.

The product is moving from AI as a chat assistant toward AI as recurring work inside BI, with cost monitoring added because usage is expected to grow. In parallel the dashboard is becoming the working surface rather than a read-only output: chart state is remembered, filters persist in URLs, layouts open up to HTML, and lightweight analysis happens in place.
The Analyze menu now holds reference lines and trend lines, and the release calls trend lines "the next analysis", so more in-dashboard analyses (forecasts or comparisons) are likely to follow. AI Tasks should gain delivery targets and further cost controls.

The visible work is about keeping the self-hosted build and the hosted product in step: CI now runs the same Node version as the shipped images, and saved-report state is being made reliable. Three entries are too thin a record to show where the feature roadmap is going.
The entries don't show a feature direction, so the next move is unclear; more self-hosting and report-persistence fixes are the only pattern visible so far.
