What is Aseprite?

Aseprite's 1.3.18 cycle spent its energy on the UI framework, not the drawing tools.

Aseprite runs a stable line and a beta line in parallel, and the same fix routinely appears in both within minutes — the tilemap tile-selection and zoom distortion fixes landed as 1.3.17.2 and 1.3.18-beta3 on the same day. The 1.3.18 release itself is dominated by interface and internal work: faster undo/redo by keeping document objects in memory, a widget consistency pass, a tooltip manager with configurable delay, search in Preferences, and the .aseprite encoder moved into the dio library.

What is Webflow?

Webflow is rebuilding around AI as both the audience for a site and the operator of it.

Webflow's changelog has split into two streams. One is the visual builder getting real depth: Component Slots now accept images, collection lists, sliders and rich text; localization gained per-language tone and formality; the custom attribute field now splits a pasted name=value pair on its own. The other stream treats the site's most important reader as a model, with AEO analytics running your prompts through ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and MCP 2.0 handing agents context, control and governance in production.

Aseprite vs Webflow: editorial side-by-side

A
Aseprite
DESIGN
5.0

Aseprite's 1.3.18 cycle spent its energy on the UI framework, not the drawing tools.

◆ Current state

Aseprite runs a stable line and a beta line in parallel, and the same fix routinely appears in both within minutes — the tilemap tile-selection and zoom distortion fixes landed as 1.3.17.2 and 1.3.18-beta3 on the same day. The 1.3.18 release itself is dominated by interface and internal work: faster undo/redo by keeping document objects in memory, a widget consistency pass, a tooltip manager with configurable delay, search in Preferences, and the .aseprite encoder moved into the dio library.

◆ Where it's heading

This cycle is infrastructure with a UI face on it. Preferences search, tooltip control and widget consistency are the kind of changes that accumulate into an application feeling maintained, while the encoder move and the refactors described as groundwork for new layer types are the project clearing the way for something structural later. Actual drawing and animation features in this window are smaller and mostly contributor-driven: rounded rectangle selection, power-of-two sprite sheets, better layer group presentation.

◆ Prediction

The refactors flagged as preparation for new layer types are the clearest thread here, so the next substantive cycle is more likely to spend that groundwork than to continue on interface plumbing.

DESIGN
7.5

Webflow is rebuilding around AI as both the audience for a site and the operator of it.

◆ Current state

Webflow's changelog has split into two streams. One is the visual builder getting real depth: Component Slots now accept images, collection lists, sliders and rich text; localization gained per-language tone and formality; the custom attribute field now splits a pasted name=value pair on its own. The other stream treats the site's most important reader as a model, with AEO analytics running your prompts through ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity, and MCP 2.0 handing agents context, control and governance in production.

◆ Where it's heading

The AI stream is moving from measurement to action. AEO began as a visibility dashboard and now ships agents that recommend content, write briefs and draft copy aimed at getting cited. MCP 2.0 and Webflow for Slack put the CMS behind an agent interface, so the same site can be edited by a person on the canvas or by a model in a chat window. The builder work continues as a steady stream of editor affordances, but it is no longer where direction gets set.

◆ Prediction

Expect the AEO agents and the MCP surface to converge — agents that read visibility data and publish the fix through MCP without a human on the canvas. The docking control and the paste handling suggest the canvas work is now about removing friction around an assistant treated as a permanent fixture.
