HR suites stop assisting and start acting: the agentic layer went GA this week
The week in hr-recruiting
Strip out the payroll listicles and hiring how-tos that dominate this sector's feeds, and one move defines the week: HR platforms crossing from AI that suggests to AI that does the first pass of work. Workable put its recruiting Agent into general availability, running sourcing, screening, and engagement end to end and handing recruiters a finished shortlist. Fountain taught its Cue assistant to run recurring tasks on a schedule, unattended. Zoho People relaunched Zia as a decision-layer rather than a task automator. The pattern is consistent enough to read as a sector reset: the unit of value is shifting from the software surface a human operates to the work an agent completes on their behalf.
The second, quieter pattern is plumbing. The same week the agents shipped, HiBob moved its Bob MCP Server to OAuth with an expanded toolset, and Workable added 30-plus tools to its own MCP server. MCP is becoming the sector's default connective tissue — the way HR data gets exposed to agents under governance rather than through brittle point integrations. Note how much of the loud activity in this sector is not this: a dozen products in the feed (Recruitee, Jobvite, Crelate, Qandle, Namely, Employment Hero and more) published only SEO content this week. The real signal is narrow and it is agentic.
Leaders
Workable was the week's clearest mover, shipping two sparks. Workable Agent reached GA, automating the top of the hiring funnel — sourcing, screening, qualifying, engaging — at one credit per candidate processed, and a 30-plus-tool expansion of the Workable MCP server made that agentic layer programmable. Together they move the product from assisting recruiters to doing the recruiter's first pass.
Fountain shipped the most structurally interesting spark: Scheduled Tasks in Cue, which lets its assistant run recurring work daily, weekly, or monthly with each run archived. That is the step that turns a prompt-response assistant into an agent with its own cadence — standing work done without a human in the loop.
Zoho People relaunched Zia as an AI-powered HR assistant, reframing it from a helper that automates hiring and payroll tasks into a system meant to drive decisions across the platform. The surrounding module work — OKR management, a WhatsApp integration — reads as surface area for Zia to occupy.
Workyard narrowed the same idea to a single painful workflow: its Time Assistant now turns free-text timecard notes into pre-filled corrections an admin approves in one click, and flags the notes that need no change so reviewers stop reading every one. It is the clearest expression of the shift from tracking time to doing the admin work around it.
HiBob led on the plumbing side. Moving the Bob MCP Server to OAuth with a broader tool set tightens how AI tools connect to HR data — a governed-agent-access bet that turns Bob into an integration platform one API surface at a time, alongside new Employer, Hiring, and Time-off endpoints.
Wildcards
Engagedly went the other direction from everyone chasing agents: it launched EngagedlyFX, a mobile-first platform for frontline and deskless workers — the employees traditional HR suites skip — and paired it with an Energage tie-up. This is a new product surface and a bet on HR infrastructure over point tools, not an increment.
TalentLMS is a mostly-SEO feed with a real release buried inside: 7.1 adds AI Video to TalentCraft, generating a complete training video with voiceover from a text prompt. It collapses scripting, recording, and narration into one step and extends the generative-authoring arc 7.0 started — worth watching despite the noisy feed around it.
Themes that compounded
- MCP became the sector's default agent-access layer, with HiBob and Workable both shipping expanded, governed MCP servers in the same week.
- Agents moved from assist to act: Workable, Fountain, and Zoho People all repositioned AI from suggesting work to completing it.
- Unstructured input to structured output is the winning AI pattern — Workyard turning notes into edits, TalentLMS turning prompts into video.
- Platform-and-integration plays deepened, with HiBob widening its public API and Ever Gauzy broadening its AI-providers page to connect multiple models.
- The steady WFM grind continued underneath the AI headlines: Tanda, Teamflect, and Frappe HR shipped rostering, governance, and payroll-accuracy refinements without a spark.
Watch this week
Watch whether the agentic launches convert from announcement to adoption mechanics. Workable priced its Agent at one credit per candidate, which makes usage measurable — the question is how quickly the MCP expansion drives real integration volume. Fountain's scheduled Cue tasks and Zoho People's Zia relaunch both need follow-through releases to show the decision-layer framing is real and not repositioning. And watch Engagedly's frontline bet: EngagedlyFX opens a segment most of this sector ignores, and whether the Energage data actually feeds it will tell you if this is infrastructure or a second product bolted on.
