Zellij 0.45.0 pushed the multiplexer past byte-shuttling: nested sessions became a supported workflow, the Kitty graphics protocol landed, and OSC 133 parsing gave it prompt-aware scrollback. 0.45.1 arrived eight days later to fix what that surface broke — SSH nested-session detection, OSC9 notifications misfiring against the OSC99 spec, and Kitty image clearing on stacked panes. The project is single-maintainer and funds itself through sponsorship.

The arc runs from platform reach to terminal semantics. 0.44.0 took the multiplexer to native Windows; 0.45.0 taught it to read shell protocol rather than relay bytes. The 0.45.1 fixes cluster entirely on the protocol work, which is the expected cost of parsing escape sequences other tools emit loosely. Notably, 0.45.1 also adds escape hatches — scroll_mode_sync and explicit_theme_hue — suggesting the new defaults were more opinionated than some users wanted.
