Delta Chat vs Element: at a glance
What is Delta Chat?
Delta Chat patches a Team Profile regression and moves its Tauri build out of the repo.
The desktop client runs on a roughly weekly cadence. 2.59.0 added reactions on channel posts, a hideable window menu bar and experimental Team Profiles; 2.59.1 followed eight days later to fix messages staying unread when read from another device, a regression affecting profiles created with Team Profile enabled. The same patch adds Arabic, Telugu and Slovenian, and moves the Tauri edition to its own repository.
What is Element?
Element 1.12.32 cuts guest access tokens and NEB starter links to close two advisories.
Element Web 1.12.32 is a security release: it removes support for NEB starter links in messages and for guest_access_token and guest_user_id parameters, each tied to a published GHSA advisory, plus a crash fix for room previews. It lands three days after 1.12.31, which made device verification mandatory by default and added in-room Markdown and PDF viewers. September's 1.12.30 removed the legacy Module & Customisation API in favour of Module API v2.

Delta Chat
5.0COMMS
Delta Chat patches a Team Profile regression and moves its Tauri build out of the repo.
◆ Current state
The desktop client runs on a roughly weekly cadence.
◆ Where it's heading
The client is in a broadening phase - channel reactions, Team Profiles as an opt-in experiment, and continued keyboard and accessibility work carried forward from 2.53.0. Splitting out the Tauri edition indicates the Electron build remains the one that ships while the alternative develops at its own pace instead of gating releases. Language coverage keeps widening, which for this project is as much a distribution decision as a localisation one.
◆ Prediction
The 2.59.1 notes promise a more elaborate fix for the Team Profile unread bug in the coming weeks, so expect that in the next minor rather than another patch.
Element
5.0COMMS
Element 1.12.32 cuts guest access tokens and NEB starter links to close two advisories.
◆ Current state
Element Web 1.12.32 is a security release: it removes support for NEB starter links in messages and for guest_access_token and guest_user_id parameters, each tied to a published GHSA advisory, plus a crash fix for room previews. It lands three days after 1.12.31, which made device verification mandatory by default and added in-room Markdown and PDF viewers. September's 1.12.30 removed the legacy Module & Customisation API in favour of Module API v2.
◆ Where it's heading
Three releases in a row have removed or locked down legacy surface: the old customisation API, skippable device verification, and now guest-token and NEB entry points. The client is shedding compatibility paths in exchange for a stricter default security posture, while front-end work on the new timeline and room list ships in small pieces.
◆ Prediction
Expect a 1.12.33 RC on the usual two-week cadence continuing the timeline and room-list work. Whether more legacy entry points get removed is not visible in the entries beyond these two advisories.
