◆Current state
Element X Android ships a versioned release roughly every two weeks, each pairing one small feature with a long tail of fixes. The newest adds active call timeline rendering; before it came scroll-to-unread, forwarding a message to several rooms, and well-known parsing for a custom recovery passphrase. A sustained accessibility push runs through the July releases — TalkBack reading order, screen reader labels on the composer and search, focus indicators on PIN entry.
◆Where it's heading
The work splits between finishing the basics the Element X rewrite left out and adding seams for managed deployments: MDM-configured homeservers, homeserver-controlled encryption in Element Pro, custom recovery passphrase parsing, external modules extending developer settings. Calls are the one feature area getting real investment. This is a client being made complete rather than pointed somewhere new.

Calls look like the next feature beat given the active call timeline work, with Element Pro configuration hooks continuing to arrive as small per-release additions.

    Scroll to unread messages and collapsed runs of deleted messages sit on top of a substantial screen-reader and TalkBack pass. Element Pro also gains the ability for a homeserver to disable encryption — a deployment control, not a client feature.

    Forwarding one message to several rooms at once is the user-visible change; well-known parsing for a custom recovery passphrase is the deployment-facing one. Both fit the pattern of closing gaps rather than opening ground.
