What is Apache Airflow?

Airflow 3.4 reaches its first release candidate, a week after the 10-20 provider wave.

Airflow published constraints for 3.4.0rc1 on Oct 28, which means core 3.4 has moved from beta to release candidate. The surrounding activity is the 2026-10-20 provider batch (Snowflake 6.20, SMTP 3.2, OpenSearch 1.15, OpenAI 2.2, Standard 1.21 and others), all published without release notes, plus a TypeScript SDK 1.0.0-beta1.

What is Lima?

Lima keeps widening which machines it can run on, and run.

Lima runs Linux virtual machines for container workloads, and its 2.x line has been a steady expansion of the host and guest matrix. macOS and FreeBSD guests arrived at 2.1.0, Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 guests followed through 2.2.0, and 2.3.0-beta.0 adds an experimental HCS driver for Windows hosts along with further Windows guest work. Each platform addition lands marked experimental first, and much of the surrounding work is CLI and template maintenance.

5.0

Airflow 3.4 reaches its first release candidate, a week after the 10-20 provider wave.

◆ Current state

Airflow published constraints for 3.4.0rc1 on Oct 28, which means core 3.4 has moved from beta to release candidate. The surrounding activity is the 2026-10-20 provider batch (Snowflake 6.20, SMTP 3.2, OpenSearch 1.15, OpenAI 2.2, Standard 1.21 and others), all published without release notes, plus a TypeScript SDK 1.0.0-beta1.

◆ Where it's heading

Core 3.4 is following the usual beta-to-RC path while providers ship on their own batch schedule. The TypeScript SDK beta and the common-ai provider suggest Airflow is widening who can author tasks, though the feed shows tags rather than feature notes.

◆ Prediction

Expect further 3.4.0 release candidates and then a 3.4.0 final within a few weeks; the entries don't show which features anchor it.

Lima keeps widening which machines it can run on, and run.

◆ Current state

Lima runs Linux virtual machines for container workloads, and its 2.x line has been a steady expansion of the host and guest matrix. macOS and FreeBSD guests arrived at 2.1.0, Windows Server 2025 and Windows 11 guests followed through 2.2.0, and 2.3.0-beta.0 adds an experimental HCS driver for Windows hosts along with further Windows guest work. Each platform addition lands marked experimental first, and much of the surrounding work is CLI and template maintenance.

◆ Where it's heading

The project is converging on a single tool that runs any guest on any host, and it is doing so from both ends: guest support and host drivers advance in alternating releases. Windows is the current focus on both sides, having moved from an unsupported host default to qemu and now to a native HCS driver option. The LFX mentee contributions behind much of this suggest the platform matrix expands as contributor capacity allows rather than on a roadmap.

◆ Prediction

The HCS driver should follow the same path the other platform additions took, moving from experimental to a supported or default option on Windows hosts once the guest work stabilises around it.
