NetBird 0.79.0 enters RC with mobile MDM and a DNS architecture change

◆Current state
NetBird is simultaneously running an RC for 0.79.0 and canary builds for 0.80.0 and 0.81.0. The 0.79.0 RC brings mobile MDM support for iOS and Android, a shift from eBPF-based DNS forwarding to DNAT for port 53 (more portable across kernel versions), custom domain expiry enforcement, hardened OIDC issuer validation, and light/dark/system theme support. The canary builds layer on proxy rate limiting, session read-lock correctness, and relay reconnection fixes.
◆Where it's heading
NetBird is adding enterprise and mobile deployment capabilities in each cycle. The MDM bridge for iOS/Android addresses corporate device management. The DNS DNAT change trades eBPF's performance edge for broader kernel compatibility — suggesting a push to support more client environments (older kernels, containers without eBPF, etc). Regular security hardening (rate limits, OIDC validation, forwarded-IP trust) indicates a compliance-aware user base.
◆Prediction
Version 0.79.0 GA will follow the RC shortly. The 0.80.0/0.81.0 canary cadence suggests continuous delivery with overlapping cycles. RHEL certification metadata (added in the 0.81.0 canary) points toward formal enterprise distribution channels.

    The 0.79.0 RC packages mobile MDM bridge support for iOS/Android, DNS DNAT replacing eBPF-based forwarding, custom domain expiry enforcement, OIDC issuer hardening, and light/dark/system theme support. Collectively these expand NetBird's deployment surface for mobile and enterprise environments while reducing kernel-version dependencies.
