MCP arrived in HR tools this week, while core workforce platforms shipped payroll modules and mobile-channel candidate outreach.
The week in hr-recruiting
Two patterns ran in parallel across HR and recruiting this week. The first was foundational capability gaps closing: Ever Gauzy shipped a complete payroll module and leave management system in a single release, and Ashby added native WhatsApp messaging to candidate communication. The second was MCP reaching HR tooling: both Teamtailor and HavaHR shipped MCP integrations that make recruiting and payroll data directly accessible to AI agents.
The contrast is notable — some tools are filling basic feature gaps while others are already building agent-readable APIs. The sector is at different maturity levels across different product categories.
Leaders
Ever Gauzy v111.42.3 shipped both a full Leave Management module and a full Payroll module in one release — PayrollRun, PayrollComponent, and PayrollItem entities alongside time-off policies, official holiday management, and balance tracking. Neither existed before this release. For an open-source workforce platform, shipping two enterprise HR compliance modules simultaneously is a significant capability jump.
Ashby added native WhatsApp messaging for candidate communication: send, receive, templates, automated reminders, and full conversation history inside the ATS. WhatsApp is the dominant business messaging channel across much of Europe, LATAM, and APAC — regions where email open rates are far lower. This is Ashby's most consequential communication addition for global recruiting teams.
Teamtailor shipped an MCP add-on that lets external AI assistants — Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible client — read and write directly to jobs, candidates, notes, and recruiting pipelines. The integration is read-write by design, not read-only: an agent can pull every applicant and update candidate status without touching Teamtailor's UI. This is a significant API surface for recruiting automation.
Envoy moved visitor ID verification fully in-house, replacing a third-party processing dependency with its own AI stack: face verification, name blocklist matching, and customizable verification levels. Cutting the third-party vendor removes the data-sharing exposure that enterprise compliance teams flag in vendor reviews. Envoy now controls the full verification pipeline.
Wildcards
HavaHR published an MCP server for Malaysia payroll that installs in one command (npx) and works across seven AI development environments — no repo checkout required. Payroll data for a specific jurisdiction in an MCP-accessible format is a niche move, but it's also a preview of what happens when every HR system eventually exposes a machine-readable payroll API. HavaHR is early to a pattern that will become standard.
Themes that compounded
- MCP reached HR tooling from two directions: Teamtailor gives AI agents read-write access to the full recruiting pipeline; HavaHR puts payroll data in the same agent context.
- Mobile messaging channels expanded beyond email: Ashby's WhatsApp integration and Workyard's geofence-triggered Smart Forms both reflect a shift toward where field and global workforces actually communicate.
- Foundational HR modules are still being shipped: Ever Gauzy adding payroll and leave management in one release shows how much runway remains in the open-source workforce platform space.
- Third-party AI vendor replacement is accelerating: Envoy bringing ID verification in-house is part of a broader pattern of SaaS platforms swapping external AI components for owned infrastructure.
Watch this week
Watch how recruiting teams configure Teamtailor's MCP write access — agents that can update candidate status and pipeline position without human confirmation are useful, but the audit and compliance implications will surface quickly in enterprise deployments. Also watch Ashby's WhatsApp adoption rate: if global teams drive significant usage, it signals that other ATS vendors need to add the channel or lose ground in international markets.
