Home Assistant builds HACS into core as agent-first rebuilds spread through the stack
The lead
Home Assistant folded HACS into core. The community store for custom integrations, cards and themes is now a built-in Marketplace in 2026.11, on every installation type and without a GitHub account. The notes call it a first version, and the same release changes entity naming in a backward-incompatible way, so the cost of this move arrives with the upgrade.
The rest of the day's sparks share a direction: vendors are rebuilding the front door around an agent. MotherDuck now opens on Agent Chat instead of a SQL editor, and Salesforce News reports a third acquisition in two weeks, Cresta's voice agents. Out of 115 products with fresh commentary, only a handful were sparks. Most of the feed was patches.
What moved
- Agents get governance and memory. incident.io lets admins set org-wide rules for how its AI writes incident summaries and updates. Honeycomb added Canvas Memory (beta, personal only) and Sections that group each investigation line into an evidence-and-conclusion card. MLflow 3.18 detects recurring agent failures and scores traces online, in production.
- Bundled AI is being unbundled. 3CX is retiring its cloud transcription in January 2027 and moving customers to AI they connect themselves. Wealthbox went the other way, opening its AI Assistant to partners through an MCP developer portal, with Vault at $29 per user.
- MCP servers keep arriving. Tango shipped one for Enterprise plans, and Lyssna now lets its server write tests and surveys, not only read results.
- Builders add checks around generated output. Retool put app testing in public beta a week after its app builder went GA. Redocly made its docs agent opt-out and broke configs that still use
enabled. - Security batches. Elastic shipped ten patches tied to a Node.js Brotli bug and a compromised CA bundle. SOGo 5.12.13 fixes its largest set of vulnerabilities yet, and HedgeDoc 1.12.1 fixed seven advisories, then was pulled over a PostgreSQL migration bug.
Sectors today
- Devtools (28 products): release-line patching and agent controls dominate, with few headline features beyond Home Assistant's Marketplace and Honeycomb's Canvas.
- Development (12): mostly maintenance, with HashiCorp the exception, treating AI agents as governed users across Terraform and Vault.
- Collaboration (11): security fixes at SOGo and HedgeDoc, plus Tango's MCP.
- CRM (7): Salesforce's acquisitions and Wealthbox's partner portal are the movement; the rest is small.
- Marketing automation (8): form and automation tweaks, no sector-level shift.
- Analytics (7): MotherDuck's agent-first UI is the one structural change.
- AI/ML platforms (3): MLflow's production monitoring leads.
Watch tomorrow
Marketplace fallout at Home Assistant: the entity-naming break and the missing curation signals are where the next fixes should land. 3CX's Update 10 sits at RC2, described as last fixes. Admin controls on agents (incident.io, MotherDuck, Redocly) are the common thread to track. Several feeds carried no usable notes, including Verdaccio, whose v9 pre-release counter is at 42, and Apache ShenYu, whose 2.7.2 candidates are untagged. Treat those as crawl-source noise until notes appear.
