What is Origami Studio?

Origami Studio is in steady fortnightly drips, layering native primitives and fancier patches.

Origami Studio ships small numbered releases roughly every two weeks. Recent versions add native gradients, iOS Layer Effects, Bluetooth LE and Hand Detection patches, a Visual JSON Editor, 120fps support, and richer JS Patch primitives like setTimeout. Each release is small in surface but compounds: more native types, more device input patches, and a more capable scripting layer for prototyping.

What is Storybook?

The 10.6 alphas are an Angular tooling rebuild wearing a version number.

Storybook is five alphas into 10.6.0, shipping roughly weekly. The dominant thread is Angular: Compodoc parsing extracted into its own package, docgen moved to the server, on-demand Compodoc runs, required inputs derived from Compodoc's own flag, and alias-collision handling corrected. Alongside it, TanStack support keeps getting patched into shape and TypeScript 6.0.3 landed in the first alpha.

Origami Studio vs Storybook: editorial side-by-side

O5.0

Origami Studio is in steady fortnightly drips, layering native primitives and fancier patches.

◆ Current state

Origami Studio ships small numbered releases roughly every two weeks. Recent versions add native gradients, iOS Layer Effects, Bluetooth LE and Hand Detection patches, a Visual JSON Editor, 120fps support, and richer JS Patch primitives like setTimeout. Each release is small in surface but compounds: more native types, more device input patches, and a more capable scripting layer for prototyping.

◆ Where it's heading

The product is becoming a more serious prototyping tool for hardware-aware experiences — Bluetooth LE, Hand Detection, Text To Speech, and high-frame-rate support all point at AR/spatial and device-integration use cases beyond simple UI demos. The JavaScript patch surface is being filled out toward general-purpose scripting, which expands what designers can build before handing off. None of the recent moves are directional pivots; they tighten an already-coherent prototyping vision.

◆ Prediction

Expect more native type primitives (after gradients) and additional device-sensor patches, especially anything aligned with Meta's hardware roadmap. JS Patch will likely keep moving toward parity with a real browser-side scripting environment.

5.0

The 10.6 alphas are an Angular tooling rebuild wearing a version number.

◆ Current state

Storybook is five alphas into 10.6.0, shipping roughly weekly. The dominant thread is Angular: Compodoc parsing extracted into its own package, docgen moved to the server, on-demand Compodoc runs, required inputs derived from Compodoc's own flag, and alias-collision handling corrected. Alongside it, TanStack support keeps getting patched into shape and TypeScript 6.0.3 landed in the first alpha.

◆ Where it's heading

Two rebuilds are running in parallel. The Angular integration is being decomposed — parsing, docgen, and metadata pulled out of the framework adapter and into shared packages, with work moving off the client and onto the server. Separately, a component-metadata layer is forming in core (ComponentMetaManager, manifest component API fields, shared CSF story-shape helpers), which reads like groundwork for tooling that consumes Storybook's metadata rather than its UI. TanStack Start is being treated as a first-class router target rather than an edge case.

◆ Prediction

The Angular extraction looks close to done, so expect the remaining alphas to shift toward stabilizing the manifest and metadata APIs before a 10.6 beta.
