Matrix vs Zoho Cliq: at a glance
What is Matrix?
Matrix's changelog is a weekly community newsletter; no protocol or server releases visible in this window.
The entries for Matrix in this window are all 'This Week in Matrix' newsletter posts—weekly community roundups covering Matrix Live episodes, conference announcements, and ecosystem news. This reflects that Matrix's changelog feed is indexed against the newsletter rather than protocol specification releases or Synapse/Dendrite server releases. No MSCs (Matrix Spec Changes) or server version releases appear in this batch.
What is Zoho Cliq?
Zoho Cliq is opening its bot platform to AI coding agents through MCP tools.
Cliq 7.0 shipped in August with AI summarisation, a developer platform refresh and Cliq Mini embedded across Zoho apps. September added reworked guest access, Cliq Rooms on Neat hardware and per-role subscription plans. In October Cliq published MCP tools for its developer platform, so automations can be generated with an AI coding assistant instead of written by hand.

Matrix
5.0COMMS
Matrix's changelog is a weekly community newsletter; no protocol or server releases visible in this window.
◆ Current state
The entries for Matrix in this window are all 'This Week in Matrix' newsletter posts—weekly community roundups covering Matrix Live episodes, conference announcements, and ecosystem news. This reflects that Matrix's changelog feed is indexed against the newsletter rather than protocol specification releases or Synapse/Dendrite server releases. No MSCs (Matrix Spec Changes) or server version releases appear in this batch.
◆ Where it's heading
The themes visible in Matrix Live across this window—local-first Matrix, privacy-preserving decentralized reputation (S13E06), and Continuwuity (an alternative homeserver implementation)—point to active experimentation at the protocol layer. The Matrix Conference 2026 countdown in the September newsletter suggests the organization is in a community-building phase ahead of a likely specification announcement.
◆ Prediction
The Matrix Conference 2026 is the next material event in the ecosystem. Local-first Matrix work visible in the newsletter suggests a potential Matrix Spec proposal around client-side data persistence and offline operation.
Zoho Cliq
6.3COMMS
Zoho Cliq is opening its bot platform to AI coding agents through MCP tools.
◆ Current state
Cliq 7.0 shipped in August with AI summarisation, a developer platform refresh and Cliq Mini embedded across Zoho apps. September added reworked guest access, Cliq Rooms on Neat hardware and per-role subscription plans. In October Cliq published MCP tools for its developer platform, so automations can be generated with an AI coding assistant instead of written by hand.
◆ Where it's heading
Cliq is turning into the messaging layer of the Zoho suite and widening its reach: other Zoho apps, meeting-room hardware, external guests, and now AI agents that write its automations. The developer platform keeps lowering the cost of building bots and workflows, first through 7.0's low-code tooling and now through MCP. Pricing is moving the same way, with role-based plans meant to put more of each company on Cliq.
◆ Prediction
Expect more of the Cliq developer platform (bots, handlers, widgets) to be exposed through MCP. The entries don't show whether AI-assisted building will be priced separately.
