What is Kodi?

Kodi's v22 beta is where the foundations rebuild starts paying out in playback fixes

The v22 Piers cycle has reached its second beta, and the character of the releases has changed. Where the alphas landed features — Blu-ray menus, the PVR rebuild, Movie Versions — beta 2 is a long correction pass over playback: FFmpeg moves to 9.0.1 and Libbluray to 1.5.0, HDR gains screenshot support and a pile of colorimetry and metadata fixes, and platform-specific playback faults are cleared across Android, webOS, macOS, Windows and the embedded GBM and DRMPRIME targets.

What is Wiki.js?

Wiki.js 3.0 beta ships blog pages, AsciiDoc editor, and built-in comments in one drop

Wiki.js is in an aggressive 3.0 beta cycle, shipping multiple feature-dense releases per week. The rewrite adds content formats absent from 2.x — AsciiDoc editing, blog pages, draw.io blocks, steps blocks — alongside a full auth overhaul covering Microsoft Entra, SAML, LDAP, Discord, and passkeys. The 2.x stable branch is in security-patch maintenance mode only.

Kodi's v22 beta is where the foundations rebuild starts paying out in playback fixes

◆ Current state

The v22 Piers cycle has reached its second beta, and the character of the releases has changed. Where the alphas landed features — Blu-ray menus, the PVR rebuild, Movie Versions — beta 2 is a long correction pass over playback: FFmpeg moves to 9.0.1 and Libbluray to 1.5.0, HDR gains screenshot support and a pile of colorimetry and metadata fixes, and platform-specific playback faults are cleared across Android, webOS, macOS, Windows and the embedded GBM and DRMPRIME targets.

◆ Where it's heading

This remains a foundations cycle, and the beta shows what that buys. Rebasing onto new FFmpeg and Libbluray releases is what makes the AV1, Dolby Vision and Blu-ray handling fixable at all, and most of this beta reads as the fallout from those rebases being worked through platform by platform. The few behaviour changes that are not fixes — HDR screenshots, ReplayGain PreAmp recentred on 0 dB, improved Blu-ray playlist selection — are small adjustments to surfaces the alphas rebuilt rather than new ground.

◆ Prediction

Expect the remaining betas to keep narrowing to platform-specific playback regressions rather than adding capability, since that is what the fix list is already dominated by. Nothing in these entries indicates another feature landing before release.

Wiki.js 3.0 beta ships blog pages, AsciiDoc editor, and built-in comments in one drop

◆ Current state

Wiki.js is in an aggressive 3.0 beta cycle, shipping multiple feature-dense releases per week. The rewrite adds content formats absent from 2.x — AsciiDoc editing, blog pages, draw.io blocks, steps blocks — alongside a full auth overhaul covering Microsoft Entra, SAML, LDAP, Discord, and passkeys. The 2.x stable branch is in security-patch maintenance mode only.

◆ Where it's heading

The 3.0 beta is racing to close the gap between what has been architected and what is usable as a production wiki. Each release adds significant surface area: permissions are now site- and path-aware rather than global, a native comments system is wired in, and SEO basics like sitemap and prerendering landed in the last two weeks. At this cadence, the focus is on breadth before polish, with a stable 3.0 release still several months out.

◆ Prediction

The most likely next moves are storage backend integrations and a 2.x-to-3.0 migration utility — both are prerequisites for any organization seriously evaluating the upgrade, and neither has appeared in the beta yet.
