Kodi's v22 beta is where the foundations rebuild starts paying out in playback fixes

◆Current state
The v22 Piers cycle has reached its second beta, and the character of the releases has changed. Where the alphas landed features — Blu-ray menus, the PVR rebuild, Movie Versions — beta 2 is a long correction pass over playback: FFmpeg moves to 9.0.1 and Libbluray to 1.5.0, HDR gains screenshot support and a pile of colorimetry and metadata fixes, and platform-specific playback faults are cleared across Android, webOS, macOS, Windows and the embedded GBM and DRMPRIME targets.
◆Where it's heading
This remains a foundations cycle, and the beta shows what that buys. Rebasing onto new FFmpeg and Libbluray releases is what makes the AV1, Dolby Vision and Blu-ray handling fixable at all, and most of this beta reads as the fallout from those rebases being worked through platform by platform. The few behaviour changes that are not fixes — HDR screenshots, ReplayGain PreAmp recentred on 0 dB, improved Blu-ray playlist selection — are small adjustments to surfaces the alphas rebuilt rather than new ground.
◆Prediction
Expect the remaining betas to keep narrowing to platform-specific playback regressions rather than adding capability, since that is what the fix list is already dominated by. Nothing in these entries indicates another feature landing before release.

    The second beta pairs two dependency rebases — FFmpeg 9.0.1 and Libbluray 1.5.0 — with a long correction pass across video, HDR, Blu-ray, audio, subtitles and PVR. HDR screenshots are newly enabled and ReplayGain PreAmp is recentred on 0 dB, but the bulk is platform-specific playback repair, which is the expected shape once a foundations cycle reaches beta.
