Shopify's October drop lets Sidekick test store changes on AI shoppers and has POS know buyers.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Katana and Virto Commerce — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Katana is closing the gap between the shop floor and the sales channels feeding it.
Katana ships roughly monthly, alternating feature posts with how-to content. The recent run covers Amazon FBM order fulfillment, bin-level stock tracking across a warehouse, AI replenishment forecasting twelve months out, custom fields on sales orders, and now Assisted Import, which loads data into Katana without requiring a formatted template. One caveat on reading this feed: the entry bodies are recycled boilerplate that frequently does not match their own titles, so only the headlines are reliable.
Virto Commerce opens two-factor sign-in to extensions after its Admin UI refresh.
Virto Commerce 3.1090.0 adds extension points for two-factor sign-in, so modules can plug their own second factor into the platform's login. It follows 3.1088.0's classic Admin UI theme update (responsive layout, collapsible menu, global search) and 3.1089.0's AnyCPU assembly fix, both backported to the 3.1076 branch the same morning. Earlier came sign-in log time zones, trend fixes and Azure SDK bumps on 3.1039 and 3.1007.

Two lines are running in parallel. One extends Katana outward into the channels a maker sells through, with Amazon fulfillment following the existing Shopify and QuickBooks connections. The other deepens the inventory model itself — bin locations, demand forecasting, custom fields — so the data those channels feed has somewhere precise to land. Assisted Import addresses the point where both of those stall, which is getting a prospect's existing spreadsheet data in at all.
Expect further sales-channel connectors on the Amazon pattern and continued work on onboarding and migration, given the Stocky migration guide and the template-free import both target switching cost. What the AI replenishment feature actually spans is not readable from these entries.

The platform ships near-daily from main and backports to at least three support branches (3.1076, 3.1039, 3.1007). Recent main-line work clusters around the back office and sign-in, from the sign-in log and Admin UI refresh to pluggable 2FA, suggesting an admin security and usability push.
Expect a module that uses the new two-factor extension points, and continued backports of the main-line fixes to the support branches.
