A side-by-side editorial comparison of Hi.Events and Virto Commerce — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Hi.Events 2.0 ends single-date events: recurring occurrences, embedded checkout, a REST API.
Hi.Events is in release candidates for 2.0, its largest release so far. rc.1 made every event a set of occurrences generated from recurrence rules, and added embedded checkout, product add-ons, a rebuilt check-in app, a documented REST API and a redesigned dashboard, with one-way migrations. rc.2 adds per-date ticket quantities, sequential tier release, AI event moderation and a site-wide cookie banner. The 1.x line before it shipped security fixes for webhook SSRF and spreadsheet formula injection.
Virto Commerce moves its MySQL default to 8.4 LTS as Stable 16 approaches.
Virto Commerce's platform ships near-daily minor versions. 3.1078.0 makes MySQL 8.4 LTS the default server version and lets the app manifest serve plugin-declared contributions, while patch 3.1039.13 backports the DefaultValue settings fix plus an index and cache that cut PlatformSetting contention during order creation. They follow a run of identity and infrastructure work: custom grant type handlers, OAuth resources with storefront login, a sign-in audit log and a unified distributed lock API.

The project is moving from a single-event ticketing tool to a platform for organisers who run repeating events and sell through their own sites. Embedded checkout and a public API widen where tickets get sold; AI moderation and the security work point to running a hosted, multi-organiser service.
Expect further rc builds that fill gaps in the recurring-event model (per-date inventory came in rc.2) before a 2.0 stable release.

The substantive work concentrates on identity, multi-instance correctness and now the database baseline, all of which clustered enterprise B2B deployments depend on. Fixes landing on the main line and on older patch lines such as 3.1039 at once show a long-lived supported branch. Together with the package bumps flagged for Stable 16, the platform looks to be stabilising ahead of that release.
A Stable 16 release bundling the recent auth, distributed-infrastructure and MySQL 8.4 changes is the clear next step.
