What is go2rtc?

The universal camera translator keeps absorbing proprietary cloud protocols one vendor at a time.

go2rtc turns almost any camera into a stream any client can consume, and the last year of releases has been a steady march through vendor-specific cloud protocols: Tuya, then a full Xiaomi source including TUTK and cs2 transports, alongside SwitchBot, DoorBird, VIGI and UniFi Protect via ONVIF. Local capture also broadened with a V4L2 source down to MIPS builds. A dedicated security release added path allowlists and local auth to the api, exec and echo modules.

What is 3CX?

3CX put MCP and a dedicated AI server into the PBX itself, in an alpha.

Two weeks of releases, and the AI agent stack is where the work is. V20 Update 10 entered alpha with native Model Context Protocol support for connecting external AI assistants plus a dedicated AI Server for self-hosted inference and more granular admin control. Update 9 added emailed call details, summaries and transcripts from AI agents. Markdown knowledge sources were added to improve AI agent answers. Alongside that, the Windows Softphone hit V5.7 with one-click extension and account migration to the desktop app, and Yealink and Fanvil phones got firmware updates. The feed also carries company notices — award mentions, forum recognition, and a summer support-hours announcement — which sit next to the release posts without adding product signal.

The universal camera translator keeps absorbing proprietary cloud protocols one vendor at a time.

◆ Current state

go2rtc turns almost any camera into a stream any client can consume, and the last year of releases has been a steady march through vendor-specific cloud protocols: Tuya, then a full Xiaomi source including TUTK and cs2 transports, alongside SwitchBot, DoorBird, VIGI and UniFi Protect via ONVIF. Local capture also broadened with a V4L2 source down to MIPS builds. A dedicated security release added path allowlists and local auth to the api, exec and echo modules.

◆ Where it's heading

Two expansions are running at once. Horizontally, each release reverse-engineers another walled-garden camera cloud, which is what makes go2rtc the layer Home Assistant and Frigate build on rather than a competitor to them. Vertically, the Wyoming module pushes past video into voice-assistant audio, which is a different category from streaming cameras. The security release is the counterweight — a project embedded that deeply in other people's stacks cannot keep shipping modules that execute arbitrary paths by configuration.

◆ Prediction

The Xiaomi rework was still landing device-specific fixes in the most recent release, so continued protocol and model coverage for that source is the likeliest next step. Whether Wyoming graduates from work-in-progress is the open question these notes leave.

3CX put MCP and a dedicated AI server into the PBX itself, in an alpha.

◆ Current state

◆ Where it's heading

3CX is turning the phone system into an AI agent host rather than a system that calls out to one. Native MCP means external assistants reach the PBX's data directly; a dedicated AI server means customers who cannot send call content to a hosted model can still run agents. Taken with Markdown knowledge sources and emailed transcripts, the shape is a self-hostable voice agent with its own grounding and its own output channel — consistent with 3CX's on-premises and privacy-sensitive base.

◆ Prediction

Expect Update 10 to move from alpha toward general availability with the AI Server and MCP surface intact, and further knowledge-source formats to follow Markdown. The summer support-hours notice suggests release cadence slows before that lands.
