Online video platform and HTML5 player for streaming, hosting, and video monetization

JW Player is bolting a short-form vertical feed onto a long-form video stack.

Current state
JW Player's July output splits three ways: a new full-screen vertical video experience with localized discovery labels, incremental Management API and analytics additions, and an Android SDK release. The platform surface being extended is publisher-facing — display modes, reporting filters, ad strategy configuration — rather than the core player.
Where it's heading
Vertical video is the clearest bet: a dedicated full-screen playlist mode, plus discovery labels that localize into English, Spanish and French with CSS overrides for anything else. That is a publisher chasing short-form consumption habits without leaving their existing library behind. Alongside it, monetization tooling keeps thickening — a key value pair registry centralizing the keys used across Strategy Rules, Channel ID attribution in FAST analytics, and dedicated tag and custom-parameter filters in playback reports.
Prediction
Expect the vertical experience to pick up the same reporting and ad-strategy hooks the horizontal player already has — attribution for vertical playlists is the obvious gap once publishers start running them.

Launch a full-screen Vertical Video experience

    ⚡ SPARK

A new display mode presents a playlist of vertical videos as a dedicated full-screen experience. It is the anchor of the vertical push this feed has been building toward, and the first change here that alters what a JW-powered site can be rather than how it reports.

Android 4.26.0: Configurable live playback latency and modernized components

Android SDK 4.26.0 adds configurable live playback latency and modernizes the core playback and advertising components. Latency control is the meaningful part for live publishers, who otherwise trade glass-to-glass delay for stability with no dial to turn.

    Localize vertical video discovery

Vertical video discovery labels now display automatically in English, Spanish or French, with CSS overrides for other languages. Small, but it is the localization pass that turns the new vertical mode into something a non-English publisher can ship.

View media version history through the Management API

The v2 Management API can now list a media asset's versions and identify the active one. Version visibility is a prerequisite for automated media workflows, where a script needs to know which cut is live before it acts.

Key Value Pair Management for Dynamic Strategy Rules

A key value pairs registry centralizes the keys used across Strategy Rules and related workflows. It replaces per-rule key sprawl with one managed list, which matters most for teams running many concurrent ad strategies.

Analyze FAST channel performance with Channel ID

FAST analytics gain a Channel ID field, so streaming and ad insertion activity can be attributed to individual channels. Basic reporting hygiene for operators running multiple free ad-supported channels off one account.
