What is Dendrite?

A forked, relicensed Dendrite spent its first year catching up on Matrix protocol and security debt

The window opens with the first release after forking from matrix-org/dendrite under AGPLv3, which fixed long-standing state-reset bugs and added I2P and Onion listening. What follows is a security release closing a server-side request forgery vulnerability, then a release adding room version 12 support and two MSC implementations, and finally two quick patches for unresponsiveness, v12 room joins and malformed PDUs blocking whole transactions.

What is Salesmsg?

Salesmsg is turning a texting inbox into an agent platform that also answers the phone.

Salesmsg ships weekly and nearly every release now touches AI agents rather than the messaging inbox itself. In the last two months it consolidated agent creation into a single conversational builder, opened the account to external AI agents over MCP, and gave the AI calling agent escalation, live data connections, and session controls. Calling has moved from a side feature to a configured surface with routing actions, queues, and a custom IVR.

Dendrite vs Salesmsg: editorial side-by-side

D0.0

A forked, relicensed Dendrite spent its first year catching up on Matrix protocol and security debt

◆ Current state

The window opens with the first release after forking from matrix-org/dendrite under AGPLv3, which fixed long-standing state-reset bugs and added I2P and Onion listening. What follows is a security release closing a server-side request forgery vulnerability, then a release adding room version 12 support and two MSC implementations, and finally two quick patches for unresponsiveness, v12 room joins and malformed PDUs blocking whole transactions.

◆ Where it's heading

This is a fork proving it can carry a homeserver. The order is telling: license and state correctness first, then a CVE, then protocol currency with room version 12, then the operational bugs that surface once people actually run it. Several fixes carry outside contributor credits, which is the fork's clearest sign of life.

◆ Prediction

Expect continued protocol catch-up on newer MSCs and room versions plus operational fixes, since federation compatibility is the constraint that sets this project's agenda.

S6.3

Salesmsg is turning a texting inbox into an agent platform that also answers the phone.

◆ Current state

Salesmsg ships weekly and nearly every release now touches AI agents rather than the messaging inbox itself. In the last two months it consolidated agent creation into a single conversational builder, opened the account to external AI agents over MCP, and gave the AI calling agent escalation, live data connections, and session controls. Calling has moved from a side feature to a configured surface with routing actions, queues, and a custom IVR.

◆ Where it's heading

Two lines are converging. One is agent depth — agents that book HubSpot meetings over SMS, escalate calls to humans, pull from live documents, and now get built by describing them in a sentence. The other is CRM gravity: Salesforce custom objects, HubSpot workflows, and call-outcome logging keep pulling the product deeper inside systems customers already run, which makes it harder to swap out. Credit tracking per workflow and agent signals that AI usage is becoming a metered cost customers need to see.

◆ Prediction

Expect the Unified Agent surface to absorb the calling agent next, so voice and text agents are built and managed in the same place, and expect the credit-tracking work to grow into budget limits or alerts once customers can see what agents cost.
