What is CryptPad?

CryptPad ships by season, and spends most of it keeping OnlyOffice documents intact.

CryptPad releases on a seasonal calendar with patch releases between. The Winter release moved office applications to OnlyOffice 9 and finally gave them the same full history browsing the other apps had; Spring rebuilt the Diagram app on Drawio 29, defaulting to an infinite sketch canvas with a switcher back to the fuller mode. Both were followed within weeks by fix releases addressing office document corruption, missing realtime channels and history loading.

What is Double?

Double is moving accounting work into a chat box, one close workflow per week.

Since Ask Double shipped in May, Double has absorbed one accounting workflow per weekly release into its chat interface: create transactions, edit them, build workpapers, import accruals, edit spreadsheets in place, and now define client metrics. Each release ships one named workflow plus a short list of small fixes. Gating is explicit — QuickBooks-only, Scale tier for the AI composer — so the rollout is staged rather than universal.

CryptPad ships by season, and spends most of it keeping OnlyOffice documents intact.

◆ Current state

CryptPad releases on a seasonal calendar with patch releases between. The Winter release moved office applications to OnlyOffice 9 and finally gave them the same full history browsing the other apps had; Spring rebuilt the Diagram app on Drawio 29, defaulting to an infinite sketch canvas with a switcher back to the fuller mode. Both were followed within weeks by fix releases addressing office document corruption, missing realtime channels and history loading.

◆ Where it's heading

The pattern across a year is a feature release followed by repair work concentrated in the same place: the OnlyOffice integration. Corruption fixes, disappearing sheets, pinning and rtChannel bugs, history failures — office documents are where an encrypted collaboration suite is hardest and where most of the effort goes. The rest of the work is steady and unglamorous: accessibility for forms and dialogs, an icon system moved off Fontawesome 4.7 to Lucide, websocket leaks, rate-limiting guidance for operators.

◆ Prediction

The established rhythm points to a summer release followed by its own fix release, with office document handling the most likely subject of both. Nothing in these entries signals a change of scope.

◆ Current state

Each release ships one named workflow plus a short list of small fixes. Gating is explicit — QuickBooks-only, Scale tier for the AI composer — so the rollout is staged rather than universal.

◆ Where it's heading

The arc runs from assistant to operator. Early releases had Ask Double describe problems — diagnostic reviews of a P&L, flux analysis notes; recent ones have it post transactions, reconcile workpapers against supporting documents, and apply changes across an entire book of clients at once. Skill sharing and the MCP/API surface point at the same destination: firm-level standard operating procedures executed by the assistant rather than repeated by staff, client by client.

◆ Prediction

Expect the copy-across-all-clients pattern to spread beyond metrics — a workpaper template or accrual setup applied to every client in one instruction — and the private-beta loan amortization schedules to reach general availability.
