Read the Docs
Read the Docs moves builds to Python 3.14 and Ubuntu 26.04 by default.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Capacities and PhotoPrism — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Capacities adds whiteboards and a global graph to its object-based notes.
Capacities is a structured personal knowledge tool shipping a named release about monthly. The October release adds whiteboards and a global graph view, a visual layer over existing notes, plus a polish pass. September brought audio recording and transcription, bulk property editing and AI chats that can edit and act on objects. AI image generation and a Pro+ tier with a larger AI budget arrived in August.
PhotoPrism now lets AI assistants search your photo library over MCP.
PhotoPrism's 29 October release adds OAuth for outside apps and MCP tools so AI assistants can search and browse a library within account permissions, enabled by default and switchable per account. It also adds experimental PostgreSQL support with a database transfer command and an export dialog. September brought new face detection and embedding models plus private and hidden people; October 7 moved classification and NSFW detection to ONNX with GPU support and dropped custom TensorFlow models.

Two threads run together: AI that acts inside the workspace (connectors, chats that edit, a paid AI budget) and better ways to see and capture what is already stored (graph, whiteboards, audio). API 2.0 in July opened the space to outside tools.
Expect more AI actions inside chats and further work on the graph and whiteboard surfaces; the entries do not say whether whiteboards will reach the API.

The vision stack is now fully ONNX and GPU-capable, and the library itself is becoming something other tools can query. PostgreSQL support breaks the long MariaDB/SQLite limit for larger installs.
PostgreSQL leaving experimental status and MCP gaining more than read-only search are the likely next steps, given both arrived in first form here.
