What is Camunda?

Camunda is untying the business key from process start — assign it late, propagate it down.

The 8.10 alpha series is built around one theme: business IDs. Across engine, protocol, REST, gRPC, the Java client and the exporters, Camunda added late assignment via CompleteJob, forward-propagation semantics, resolution into child instances at call activity, deploy-time validation of the businessId attribute on zeebe:calledElement, and exposure in FEEL expressions. Underneath it, agent-instance data now gets cleaned up at the end of a process instance lifecycle and loop counters were renamed across agent instance history.

What is Atlassian?

Atlassian is rebuilding Jira and Forge so agents, not people, are the ones taking action.

The Summer 2026 Jira release consolidates six months of work aimed at agent-driven execution: infrastructure for agents to act on work items, expanded MCP capabilities so coding agents can take more actions inside Jira, general availability of the Teamwork Graph CLI, rebuilt views, and foundation performance work. In parallel, Forge container services reached Preview, letting apps run container images on Atlassian infrastructure and ship to production and the marketplace. Rovo continues to widen its reach, pulling documents from Google Drive, SharePoint, and OneDrive into search, chat, and agents.

Camunda vs Atlassian: editorial side-by-side

C6.3

Camunda is untying the business key from process start — assign it late, propagate it down.

◆ Current state

The 8.10 alpha series is built around one theme: business IDs. Across engine, protocol, REST, gRPC, the Java client and the exporters, Camunda added late assignment via CompleteJob, forward-propagation semantics, resolution into child instances at call activity, deploy-time validation of the businessId attribute on zeebe:calledElement, and exposure in FEEL expressions. Underneath it, agent-instance data now gets cleaned up at the end of a process instance lifecycle and loop counters were renamed across agent instance history.

◆ Where it's heading

Business IDs are being promoted from a value you set once at start into a first-class, propagating, late-bindable identifier — which is what a process engine needs when the domain entity a process refers to is not known until partway through. In parallel, a canonical endpoint-to-permission mapping is being exposed as the single source of truth for RBAC, and the agent-instance surface implies agentic constructs are being maintained as ordinary engine state with their own lifecycle and cleanup.

◆ Prediction

Expect 8.10 to reach general availability with the business ID work complete across all three client surfaces, and the RBAC mapping to become the basis for generated authorization documentation or tooling. The agent-instance cleanup and history renames suggest that surface is still pre-stable and will keep changing shape before it settles.

A10.0

Atlassian is rebuilding Jira and Forge so agents, not people, are the ones taking action.

◆ Current state

The Summer 2026 Jira release consolidates six months of work aimed at agent-driven execution: infrastructure for agents to act on work items, expanded MCP capabilities so coding agents can take more actions inside Jira, general availability of the Teamwork Graph CLI, rebuilt views, and foundation performance work. In parallel, Forge container services reached Preview, letting apps run container images on Atlassian infrastructure and ship to production and the marketplace. Rovo continues to widen its reach, pulling documents from Google Drive, SharePoint, and OneDrive into search, chat, and agents.

◆ Where it's heading

The platform is being re-plumbed around two audiences that used to be one. Agents get MCP surfaces, a context graph exposed through a CLI, and the ability to act rather than suggest. Developers get a runtime that finally accepts arbitrary containers, at the same moment Connect reaches end of support and over 95% of paid app seats have moved to Forge. Those two moves together mean the extension story and the agent story now run on the same infrastructure. The customer-facing content around Strategy Collection points the same way, tying financial investment and delivery risk into one portfolio view.

◆ Prediction

With containers in Preview and MCP actions expanding, the next step is likely agents that run as marketplace apps — third-party agents with their own compute, acting on Jira work under Forge's permission model. The entries do not say when container services leaves Preview, so timing is unclear.
