A side-by-side editorial comparison of 3CX and go2rtc — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
3CX is retiring its own cloud transcription and pushing customers to bring their own AI.
3CX is closing its bundled AI services and moving customers to AI they connect themselves. ENT+ licences convert to AI Edition in January 2027, and the legacy cloud transcription service retires then too, along with the free voicemail transcription in PRO. V20 Update 10 is at Release Candidate 2 with minor fixes, and new docs compare built-in AI Agents, Call Scripts and external providers.
go2rtc keeps adding vendor camera clouds, with Xiaomi the focus of the last three releases.
go2rtc turns almost any camera into a stream any client can use, and recent releases have worked through vendor protocols: VIGI, DoorBird and UniFi Protect via ONVIF in early 2025, then Tuya and Xiaomi in December 2025, a Xiaomi rework in January and more Xiaomi models in 1.9.15 on October 25. Between those came RTSP UDP transport, preload streams, a security release with path allowlists, and a Wyoming module for voice audio.

The model is shifting from 3CX selling AI minutes to 3CX being the phone system that connects to OpenAI, Google, xAI or its own self-hosted AI Server. That fits its long-standing self-hosted identity, and it hands usage cost and setup work to the customer. Marketing now serves the same move, with partner content on selling AI and call analytics posts around AI Edition.
Update 10 should reach final release soon, since RC2 is described as the last fixes, and it is the version that supports the AI Server on qualifying licences. Expect more migration guidance before January, because transcription users must configure a replacement themselves.

Releases come every one to three months, and each widens camera coverage or tightens the server's attack surface rather than changing the architecture. The Wyoming module is the one move beyond cameras.
The next release will likely add more vendor or firmware support; whether the Wyoming voice work expands is unclear from the feed.
