Shopify's Autopilot and Junip's MCP v2 put commerce data within reach of AI assistants.
The week in ecommerce
Commerce platforms are building for AI on both sides of the checkout. Shopify had four sparks, among them Campaign Autopilot opening to all merchants and POS recognizing in-store shoppers across Shopify Payments stores. Junip replaced its Claude integration with an MCP server any AI platform can use, and ParcelPanel lets merchants ask Shopify's Sidekick where an order is.
Underneath, the open-source and enterprise platforms shipped structural releases: PrestaShop 9.2 reached stable and Virto Commerce extracted its AngularJS admin UI.
Leaders
Shopify opened Campaign Autopilot to all merchants, where a budget and goal drive campaigns, and extended POS to recognize in-store shoppers who have checked out on any Shopify Payments store. The feed counted 22 further improvements.
Virto Commerce 3.1092.0 moves the AngularJS admin UI into a separate Admin-AngularJS module, so a deployment without that module is API only. The prior release added sign-in method management and passkey groundwork.
Junip released MCP v2, connecting its reviews to Claude, ChatGPT and other AI platforms.
Hi.Events 2.0 rc.1 introduced recurring events, embedded checkout and a REST API, and rc.3 added reserved seating with a seat-map designer and a box office as Enterprise features.
PrestaShop 9.2 landed stable after nine days in RC, with One Page Checkout, Ask AI and Extra Properties.
Wildcards
Spryker documented a Storefront Assistant that answers only from catalog data and a Back Office Assistant with four agents, an AI commerce layer inside its B2B stack.
Squarespace published updates covering an in-dashboard tracker of brand presence in LLM answers and Blueprint AI producing a multi-page site.
Themes that compounded
- Assistant-addressable commerce data: Junip MCP and ParcelPanel's Sidekick integration.
- Shoppers recognized across stores or channels in Shopify POS and Nosto's hybrid vector search.
- Release candidates moving toward stable in PrestaShop and Hi.Events.
- Billing depth grew at Polar, which added customer credits, separate meter cycles and tiered metered prices.
Watch this week
Watch for Hi.Events 2.0 stable following rc.3, and for Virto Commerce follow-ups to the admin extraction, since the product is already shipping weekly numbered releases. Shopify's AI-shopper testing for Sidekick should also draw partner integrations like ParcelPanel's.
