GitHub retired its model catalog, Expo shut its agent — subtraction was the day's signal.
The lead
254 products carried new commentary in the last 24 hours — the largest single day this feed has produced — and the most directionally significant releases in it are deletions. GitHub retired GitHub Models outright: playground, model catalog, inference API and bring-your-own-key, no customer exempt, announced the same day stacked pull requests entered public preview. Expo ended its coding agent's closed beta and wound the project down, two months after making its MCP server free. Cosmic retired AI Studio and folded its AI into three surfaces. Tabnine, after a year of posts arguing that enterprise AI coding fails on context rather than model quality, announced it had been acquired by Tricentis.
Read together, that is one decision made four times: concede the layer you cannot defend, retreat to the one tied to assets you already own. GitHub's version is clearest — exit model serving, move everything else up into agents, skills and MCP attached to the repository rather than the weights. Vercel had the same lesson delivered from outside: Claude Fable 5 was suspended on its AI Gateway in compliance with a US Government directive, and Vercel says it does not know whether the model returns. A reseller does not set its own catalog. Atlassian bet the other way, taking its Forge LLMs API to general availability so third-party app developers get model access as a platform primitive.
What moved
- Consolidation ran in both directions. Windsurf is now effectively Devin's front end — every substantive item in its window is a Cognition capability under the existing subscription — and Engagedly merged with Energage. Pulling the opposite way, Depot moved CI onto its own bare metal and opened a private beta of its own git hosting, and Baseten crossed the table to sell serving and distribution to the labs that build the models.
- Agent usage priced per call, not per seat. Clerk took API keys to general availability at $0.001 per creation and $0.00001 per verification. OpenRouter's Classifiers turn its routing position into cost attribution against a customer-defined taxonomy. Speakeasy scores captured agent skills for efficacy and stacks cost timelines beside them, Baseten's Fast tier prices sustained throughput separately, and Notion is metering Workers in the credits dashboard before the beta closes. CloudZero followed cloud spend into token spend.
- Agent surfaces were deliberately narrowed. Tracecat removed run_python from its agent tools, stopped forwarding inbound auth to user MCP servers, and made its Action Gateway mandatory as a breaking change. PlanetScale shipped an Insights-only MCP variant with the query-execution tools left out. Pipedream annotated more than 10,000 tools as read, write or destructive. Agno 2.7.0 put a single auth layer across REST, /mcp and WebSocket with scope-based authorization and per-request isolation. Capability and constraint arrived in the same releases.
- The build-out continued underneath. Cursor added router policy, model block lists and org-group access around its agent fleet; Atlassian's Jira Automation now dispatches Copilot, Cursor or Claude Code as a rule step; Rivet's agentOS was adopted by Vercel's Eve and Flue; MotherDuck put an organization's metric definitions where agents read them over MCP; Sigma moved data modeling into a Claude Code plugin.
- And a set of releases with no AI in them at all. FreeSWITCH broke twenty-one months of silence by deleting thirty legacy modules. Supabase is closing its most-exploited default — public-schema tables stop being auto-exposed, staged to all existing projects on 30 October — and shipped an RLS Tester. Prometheus set a new LTS baseline and tightened how credentials survive a redirect, and PeerTube spent 8.2's release candidates hardening instances against scrapers.
Sectors today
Devtools (32) and development (15) carried every thread above. Collaboration (20) and project-management (17) were agent-orchestration stories — Notion as the board other vendors' agents work from, Hive decomposing requests into sub-tasks, Resource Guru making scheduling data answerable in plain English. Communication-messaging (26), marketing-automation (20) and customer-support (16) ran the vertical-assistant pattern another week (Telnyx, Customer.io, Thread). Analytics (19) kept converging on the agent-readable warehouse. Design (16), ai-assistants (17), ecommerce (14), finance (12), marketing (11), video-conferencing (11), hr-recruiting (10), lms-edtech (10) and crm (8) all moved without a shared thread.
Watch tomorrow
GitHub's entries say nothing about what teams built on the retired inference API should do next; that silence is the most load-bearing gap in today's feed, and answering it will show whether GitHub expects those teams on Copilot or off its platform. Watch whether per-call pricing spreads past Clerk, Speakeasy and Notion — three vendors is a pattern forming, not yet a norm. And watch the crawl source: Metricool, Constant Contact, SocialPilot and roughly thirty more feeds again produced zero product signal, while Resource Guru and Customer.io each arrive as two rows for one product.
