Neovim

DEVOPS
Velocity0.0

Hyperextensible Vim-based text editor

Neovim's 0.12 line is into patch territory, four releases in, with no notes in the feed.

text editorpatch releasesstable branchluaopen source
Current state
Neovim shipped 0.12.0 at the end of March and has issued four patches since — 0.12.1 in April, 0.12.2 and 0.12.3 together in June, 0.12.4 in July. Every entry in the feed is the same install boilerplate: build type, LuaJIT version, download and extraction steps per platform. The changelog and news are linked rather than included, so what each patch fixed is not observable here.
Where it's heading
The release rhythm is a stable line settling down: a minor release, then patches at roughly monthly intervals, with the old 0.11 branch given a final 0.11.7 ninety minutes after 0.12.0 landed. Patch spacing is widening rather than tightening, which is what a maturing branch looks like.
Prediction
Expect continued 0.12.x patches on a monthly-to-six-week rhythm until a 0.13 development cycle opens. The feed gives no signal about what lands next, since it carries installation instructions rather than release notes.

    Nvim 0.12.4

The fourth patch on the 0.12 line, arriving a month after the previous pair. As with every entry in this feed, the body is install instructions, so the fixes it carries are not visible from here.

    Nvim 0.12.3

Published thirty seconds after 0.12.2, which points to a re-cut rather than a separate round of work. No release notes accompany it.

    Nvim 0.12.2

The June patch, immediately superseded by 0.12.3 in the same minute. Contents are behind the linked changelog.

    Nvim 0.12.1

First patch after the 0.12 minor, a week out from release — the usual shakeout window. The entry documents installation, not changes.

    Nvim 0.12.0

The 0.12 minor release, the one entry here that marks a branch transition rather than a patch. Its actual feature content sits in the linked changelog and :help news, so the milestone is legible from the version number alone.

    Nvim 0.11.7

A final 0.11 patch cut ninety minutes before 0.12.0, closing out the previous stable line as the new one opened. Boilerplate body, no notes.
