A side-by-side editorial comparison of Sonarr and Uptrends — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Sonarr's 5.0 builds move from UI rework to safer restores and keyboard-friendly selects.
Sonarr is iterating on 5.0 builds while 4.0.x receives only occasional patches. 5.0.0.2569 removed Basic Auth, defunct IMDb lists and Kometa metadata, and 5.0.0.2608 fails executables and risky files by default for most indexers. 5.0.0.2635 reworked the UI from Discord feedback, and 5.0.0.2668 now validates a restored database and keeps the previous one until the restore completes, alongside keyboard shortcut fixes and type-ahead in selects.
Synthetic monitoring built for people who script their checks, not click them.
Uptrends is a synthetic and digital experience monitoring service, and its recent releases cluster around multi-step API monitoring: bearer token authentication per API call, JWT encode and decode functions for signing and reading tokens, and a 30-second check interval for new Enterprise accounts. Around that sit account and workflow improvements — duplicable custom integrations, maintenance-period filtering by schedule attributes, SSL certificate monitors gaining the same HTTP and TLS version options as HTTPS monitors, and automatic SSO redirect at login. The August entry is a support-matrix change rather than a feature: Windows Server 2019 is no longer offered for new private location installations.

5.0 is a hardening release: legacy auth and integrations gone, safer handling of what downloads may land, and now a safer restore path. Four builds in six days, each mixing fixes with small UX work, point to a testing phase that is narrowing toward polish rather than adding scope.
Expect more 5.0.0 builds focused on UI fixes and edge cases; when 5.0 replaces 4.x as the default track is not clear from these entries.

The product is being shaped around authenticated, scripted API checks rather than simple uptime pings, and the pieces arriving are the ones that make a monitor look like a real client — token signing, per-call authentication, sub-minute frequency. The second direction is outward: OpenTelemetry export lets monitoring results land in Elastic, New Relic, Splunk, Prometheus or ITRS alongside application and infrastructure telemetry, and the Terraform Hub can emit import blocks for individual resources. Both point at customers who already run an observability stack and want Uptrends inside it rather than beside it.
Expect the Enterprise tier to keep receiving the sharper capabilities first, since both the 30-second interval and OpenTelemetry export shipped that way, and expect further authentication methods for multi-step API monitors given the run from bearer tokens through JWT functions.
