Switcher Studio
Switcher Studio's feed stays on streaming guides since Instant Replay shipped in August.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Red5 and Whereby — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Red5 2.2.0 makes JDK 25 the minimum after a run of thinly documented patches.
Red5 is a Java media server built around RTMP. From mid-September it tagged 2.0.43 to 2.0.52, mostly with little description; 2.0.49 made the AMF0 and AMF3 codecs spec-compliant. Red5 Server 2.2.0 then made JDK 25 the baseline, cleaned removed JVM flags out of the launch scripts, fixed Windows and systemd service setup and moved the Docker image to Temurin 25. Its notes list known gaps: RTMPT needs a servlet that is not packaged, and service installs on JDK 25 are untested.
Whereby folds three months into one digest and still lists nothing specific
Whereby's latest entry covers August through October in a single round-up, again framed around developer experience and SDKs, with no concrete features in the feed text. The last specific capabilities visible are session ratings for Embedded customers in April and the native iOS SDK leaving beta in February.

After the patch run, Red5 is modernizing its runtime and packaging rather than adding media features. The servlet module is back in the build but not yet shipped, so finishing that packaging is the visible open item.
A 2.2.x follow-up that packages the servlet module (restoring RTMPT) and fixes service installs on JDK 25 is likely, since the 2.2.0 notes name both as known issues.

The cadence is slowing: monthly digests have become a quarterly one, and the framing remains aimed at developers embedding video rather than meeting hosts. Without specifics in the notes, the direction can only be read from the framing, which points at SDK and embedding work.
The next entry is most likely another multi-month SDK round-up; the feed gives no signal of a larger launch.
