What is Pipedream?

Pipedream put OAuth on its 10,000-tool MCP server and annotated every tool read or write.

Two releases account for all six entries, each duplicated three times across the marketing and docs changelogs. In October 2025 Pipedream's MCP server moved to OAuth authentication on a static endpoint, became usable from ChatGPT, and gained tool annotations across more than 10,000 tools so clients can distinguish read operations from destructive writes, with no per-app pre-setup. A month earlier, Connect gained Python, TypeScript and Java SDKs and rewritten interactive documentation. Nothing has published since.

What is Skipper?

Skipper adds Redis as a distributed L2 cache backend amid a high-frequency patch cadence.

Skipper is running in a maintenance-heavy patch cycle, shipping multiple versions per week focused on stability, test infrastructure, and minor performance work. The architectural addition this period is v0.27.92's Redis L2 storage for the cache() filter, which extends caching from node-local to cluster-shared. v0.27.95's parsed filter and predicate caching across RouteGroups is a performance improvement but stays within the current architecture.

◆ Current state

Two releases account for all six entries, each duplicated three times across the marketing and docs changelogs. In October 2025 Pipedream's MCP server moved to OAuth authentication on a static endpoint, became usable from ChatGPT, and gained tool annotations across more than 10,000 tools so clients can distinguish read operations from destructive writes, with no per-app pre-setup. A month earlier, Connect gained Python, TypeScript and Java SDKs and rewritten interactive documentation. Nothing has published since.

◆ Where it's heading

Both releases point away from Pipedream as a workflow product people sit in and toward Pipedream as the integration substrate other people's agents call. Annotating every tool with read/write/destructive metadata is the unglamorous prerequisite for letting an autonomous client act without a human confirming each step, and OAuth on a static URL is what makes that catalog addressable from a third-party host.

◆ Prediction

The feed has been static for ten months, so a confident prediction isn't supported; on the visible pattern, whatever ships next is most likely on the Connect and MCP side, since both visible releases landed there.

◆ Current state

Skipper is running in a maintenance-heavy patch cycle, shipping multiple versions per week focused on stability, test infrastructure, and minor performance work. The architectural addition this period is v0.27.92's Redis L2 storage for the cache() filter, which extends caching from node-local to cluster-shared. v0.27.95's parsed filter and predicate caching across RouteGroups is a performance improvement but stays within the current architecture.

◆ Where it's heading

The Redis L2 integration suggests the Skipper team is addressing the multi-replica cache coherence problem that large deployments encounter. If this pattern continues, distributed-state options—persistent rate limiting, distributed circuit breakers using the same Redis client abstraction—are the natural follow-ons. The high patch cadence signals active production deployment rather than feature-driven development.

◆ Prediction

The Redis client abstraction introduced in v0.27.92 will be extended to other stateful filters, particularly rate limiting, given that distributed rate limiting is the most common request for API gateways running at multi-replica scale.
