Semgrep
Semgrep adds Objective-C as an alpha target, its first new language since Dart went GA.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of ESPHome and Skipper — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
ESPHome adds a sixth 2026.10 beta, one more than 2026.9 needed before its .0.
ESPHome runs a monthly cycle of betas, a .0 release, then patches. 2026.10 is at beta 6. Betas 3–5 cut memory on ESP8266 and ESP32, fixed RP2350 PIO and CAN bus crashes, and prepared BLE and Noise code for ESP-IDF 6.1. Beta 6 bumps the bundled device builder to 1.25.0, fixes web_server OTA on RP2040 and reduces stack use for state SSE.
Skipper patches its second filter advisory in a week, this one in the OPA request-body filter.
Skipper keeps tagging one release per merge. v0.28.46 fixes advisory GHSA-j3r3-rjcc-vh4q in the opaAuthorizeRequestWithBody filter, reported by an outside researcher, a week after the cache() advisory fix. Between them came v0.28.40's priority routes for binary users, raw-path predicates, and fixes for a JWT cache leak, a headerToQuery bug and an AWS signer data race; v0.28.45 only repairs CI test targets.

Work is concentrating on newer silicon (RP2350, ESP32-P4, nRF52), readiness for the next ESP-IDF major and keeping small boards viable through footprint cuts. Late betas are now narrow fixes, which suggests the cycle is close to done.
Expect 2026.10.0 within days now that betas are down to small fixes; its headline features are only in the linked beta changelog.

Security hardening at the routing layer is the main thread: outside researchers are reporting filter-level advisories, and the maintainers are answering with fixes plus tools like priority routes that let operators block suspicious paths before any backend sees them. Around that, correctness fixes for concurrency and lifecycle bugs keep landing one tag at a time, and CI coverage is being repaired so race tests actually run.
Expect more advisory fixes in filters that inspect request bodies or paths, and more single-fix tags. The entries don't say whether the advisory details will be published with them.
