The AI provider list churns constantly alongside it — models added one week, deprecated the next — but that churn is inventory management, not direction.

The v4 rewrite is holding, and the follow-up releases are exposing renderer internals as supported API rather than hiding them — CustomContext, stencil configuration and alpha strategies all hand advanced users direct control over GL state that v3 kept private. The bug pattern in 4.2.1, where stencil options silently did nothing and namespace access broke the ESM build, is the expected cost of a young renderer meeting real games.
Expect continued additive 4.x releases exposing more render-node and filter surface, with patches trailing each one to fix defaults and ESM packaging as the new paths get exercised.

The Git work is the through-line, and it is heading past 'show me the diff' toward reviewing and staging changes without leaving the editor. Each release adds another piece of a review workflow that previously lived in a terminal or a web UI: hunk-level operations, full-file solo diffs with change indicators in the scrollbar, staged and unstaged as first-class groupings. The agent panel is being fitted with the same conveniences — in-thread search, terminal-thread search, remote MCP servers added from the panel — so the two surfaces are converging on the same place in the workflow.
The next steps most consistent with these entries are pull-request-level review inside the Git Panel and tighter coupling between the agent panel and staged changes, so a generated change can be reviewed hunk by hunk in the same view. The model-provider entries are too reactive to predict from — they track upstream vendor availability rather than any plan of Zed's.
