What is Opencast?

Opencast maintains three release lines in parallel, and its feed shows only version numbers.

Opencast, the university lecture-capture platform, ships regular point releases on three supported lines: 20.x (current), 19.x and 18.x. Every feed entry is a version tag that links to external release notes, so the specific changes are not visible here. The steady pattern of 20.x and 19.x releases landing within a day of each other points to coordinated backporting.

What is Scribe?

Scribe stops waiting for users to hit record: Autocapture documents work as it happens.

Scribe has spent the summer layering an org-context agent (Optimize) on top of its step-by-step capture product: admin-supplied business context, tag-based context, file uploads and customizable workflows. Library and appearance polish filled the gaps. Autocapture now changes the input side, observing approved business apps and producing ready-to-review Scribes without a manual start or stop.

O
Opencast
EDTECH
5.0

Opencast maintains three release lines in parallel, and its feed shows only version numbers.

◆ Current state

Opencast, the university lecture-capture platform, ships regular point releases on three supported lines: 20.x (current), 19.x and 18.x. Every feed entry is a version tag that links to external release notes, so the specific changes are not visible here. The steady pattern of 20.x and 19.x releases landing within a day of each other points to coordinated backporting.

◆ Where it's heading

The cadence is roughly monthly per line, with 18.x releases getting rarer, which fits a project that supports older majors for a set window and then retires them. Because the feed has no changelog content, it doesn't show which features are moving.

◆ Prediction

Expect 20.5 and 19.10 around late October and 18.x to wind down; what they will contain can't be read from this feed.

6.3

Scribe stops waiting for users to hit record: Autocapture documents work as it happens.

◆ Current state

Scribe has spent the summer layering an org-context agent (Optimize) on top of its step-by-step capture product: admin-supplied business context, tag-based context, file uploads and customizable workflows. Library and appearance polish filled the gaps. Autocapture now changes the input side, observing approved business apps and producing ready-to-review Scribes without a manual start or stop.

◆ Where it's heading

The product is moving from a documentation tool people invoke to a process-observation layer that runs in the background and feeds the Optimize agent. Each recent release either widens what Scribe sees (video import, Autocapture) or deepens how the agent interprets it (business context, custom workflows).

◆ Prediction

Expect admin controls around Autocapture scope and review queues, and Optimize recommendations drawn directly from autocaptured workflows. The entries do not yet show how privacy or app approval is governed, which is the open question.
