Mattermost v11.11 adds a post exposure radius report as v12.0's compliance-focused overhaul takes shape.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Double and Mumble — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Double's AI just got 93% cheaper with a Standard model and Auto routing — a signal this isn't just a feature, it's their core business.
Double ships every week with substantive accounting and AI features. The three-statement interactive financials suite is now complete (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flows all drillable). Revenue-share allocations, installment-based prepaids, and invoice compliance fields (sales tax, payment terms, discounts) show systematic coverage of real accounting firm workflows. The AI assistant, Ask Double, continues to accumulate capabilities: bank statement import from CSV/PDF/image, voice input, and the ability to create and manage metrics across a full client book.
Mumble keeps its 1.5 VoIP line in slow maintenance while the 1.6.x rewrite inches through RC testing.
Mumble is a mature open-source VoIP client. The 1.5 line is in long-tail maintenance — v1.5.915 is its fifth stable release — while the next-generation 1.6.x series sits in release-candidate testing. Cadence is slow and steady, with stable point releases landing months apart.

The September 10 model update — a new Standard tier at 93% lower cost than Expert, plus Auto routing — is the most directional move in the window. It signals that Ask Double's AI is load-bearing for the product's economics, not a demonstration feature. The Connections private beta (Slack, Notion, CRM integrations) points toward Double becoming a context-aware accounting assistant that can answer client questions by pulling from both financial data and external conversation history.
Connections will exit private beta and become the primary growth narrative; when an accountant can ask Double to 'catch me up on this client before my call' and get an answer that draws from both QBO data and Slack threads, that's a meaningfully different product from any existing accounting platform.

Two tracks run in parallel: incremental 1.5 stable releases that fix bugs and platform quirks, and the 1.6.x RC that carries the real forward motion. A recurring friction point is platform packaging — pre-compiled macOS binaries for the 1.5 series are no longer provided, and the in-game overlay keeps getting blocked by anti-cheat systems.
Expect continued 1.5 maintenance point releases while 1.6.x works toward a stable debut; the dropped macOS binaries and overlay anti-cheat compatibility are the likeliest near-term focus.
