Knock
Knock adds single-step test runs and retries for failed workflow runs.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of Hatchet and Retool — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
Hatchet is shipping engine patches almost daily as it opens the scheduler to outside operators.
Hatchet is a task orchestration engine with durable execution, DAGs, cron and rate limits, shipped as a fast-moving open-source release train. In three days it cut seven engine releases, most of them narrow fixes to the DAG operator, durable waits, error passthrough and the cron ticker. The Python SDK keeps pace with flow-control features.
Retool adds Gemini 4 Argon days after its last model drop, keeping model access in-plan.
Retool is shipping a steady stream of AI plumbing: same-week support for new frontier models (GPT 6.1 Sol, Claude Sonnet 5.5, now Gemini 4 Argon), Retool-provided models on the Business plan, and natural-language creation of resources. Alongside that it keeps closing deployment gaps: resource environment switching in published apps, more source control managers for multi-instance releases, and weekly self-hosted stable and Edge builds.

The 0.113.0 serverless operator, a gRPC service that lets operators run outside the engine, set the direction: Hatchet is turning its scheduler into a platform that external runtimes plug into. The patches since then harden that path, especially durable streams and DAG output handling, and add finer flow control such as pausing rate-limited queues.
Expect more durable-stream and operator fixes in the 0.113–0.114 line, followed by SDK support that makes out-of-process operators usable without hand-written gRPC.

The direction is to make the AI app-building agent the default way to build in Retool, with model access bundled rather than bring-your-own-key and spanning every major model vendor. Enterprise release plumbing (environments, source control, multi-instance releases, self-hosted channels) keeps pace so agent-built apps can move through governed promotion pipelines.
Expect new frontier models to keep landing within days of launch and Retool-provided models to spread beyond the Business plan; source control coverage for multi-instance releases will likely keep widening.
