What is Fabric.js?

Fabric.js is building direct-manipulation editing controls and hardening its supply chain

Since Fabric 7.0 shipped in December 2025 the releases have followed two consistent threads. One is canvas editing capability: a cropping controls extension in 7.1, follow-ups in 7.2, then edge resize and flip support plus gradient controls in 7.3. The other is build and supply-chain work — the bundler moved from Rollup to Rolldown, workflow permissions and dependencies were pinned for OSSF scorecard hardening, the vulnerability reporting process was revised, and 7.4.0 fixes a CVE.

What is Recraft?

Recraft rents the frontier models and builds the thing they can't copy on top

Recraft Studio keeps two tracks running at once. One is a model catalog it does not own — Seedream 5.0 Pro, Nano Banana 2 Lite, Gemini Omni Flash for video, and earlier Krea 2, Ideogram V4, and Cosmos 3 — all priced per generation in credits behind the Pro plans. The other is design tooling that belongs to Recraft: direct vector editing on canvas, photo-grade mockup compositing, and now a Design Agent that turns a prompt into a logo, palette, typography, and icon set saved as a reusable Design Kit.

Fabric.js is building direct-manipulation editing controls and hardening its supply chain

◆ Current state

Since Fabric 7.0 shipped in December 2025 the releases have followed two consistent threads. One is canvas editing capability: a cropping controls extension in 7.1, follow-ups in 7.2, then edge resize and flip support plus gradient controls in 7.3. The other is build and supply-chain work — the bundler moved from Rollup to Rolldown, workflow permissions and dependencies were pinned for OSSF scorecard hardening, the vulnerability reporting process was revised, and 7.4.0 fixes a CVE.

◆ Where it's heading

Fabric is closing the gap between being a canvas rendering library and being the substrate for an image editor, and it is doing so through extensions rather than core API changes. The security posture work running alongside is unusually deliberate for a project this size, and reads as a response to being a widely embedded dependency: pinned CI, tightened permissions, a documented disclosure process, then a CVE fixed and announced at the top of a release.

◆ Prediction

Expect the controls extensions to keep accumulating editor affordances in the same pattern, and the scorecard and dependency-pinning work to continue as background maintenance on every release.

Recraft rents the frontier models and builds the thing they can't copy on top

◆ Current state

Recraft Studio keeps two tracks running at once. One is a model catalog it does not own — Seedream 5.0 Pro, Nano Banana 2 Lite, Gemini Omni Flash for video, and earlier Krea 2, Ideogram V4, and Cosmos 3 — all priced per generation in credits behind the Pro plans. The other is design tooling that belongs to Recraft: direct vector editing on canvas, photo-grade mockup compositing, and now a Design Agent that turns a prompt into a logo, palette, typography, and icon set saved as a reusable Design Kit.

◆ Where it's heading

Hosting frontier models is becoming table stakes, and the entries show Recraft treating it that way — model adds arrive as short catalog notes with a credit price attached. The work with intent behind it is upward, into the layer where a design survives past one generation: editable vectors, persistent kits, an agent that produces a consistent set rather than a single image. The pricing moves point the same direction, with its own V4.1 family cut 12.5–16% and roughly doubled in speed while third-party models stay metered per generation.

◆ Prediction

The Design Kit looks like the object the product will organize around next — kits applied to new generations, and the agent moving from free testing into the paid tiers. More third-party model additions are near-certain at this cadence and say little about direction.
