EGroupware
EGroupware retires 23.1 and keeps shipping security fixes every week or two.
A side-by-side editorial comparison of CryptPad and Nextcloud Desktop — release velocity, themes, recent moves, and the top alternatives to consider.
CryptPad rewrote its server and swapped OnlyOffice for Euro-Office in one release.
CryptPad's Autumn 2026.10.0 is the largest release in this window. The server is fully rewritten for scalability and published as its own cryptpad-server npm package, office documents gain a 'linked documents' data model for reliability, and the office apps move from OnlyOffice to Euro-Office 9.3, a compatible fork. A long list of drive, team, accessibility and form fixes rides along, and admins are told to read the upgrade notes because the new server changes deployment.
Nextcloud Desktop 35 brings Assistant, unified search and Linux virtual files to the client
Release 35.0.0 landed on 12 October after four release candidates. Its pull-request list adds the Assistant on the client, revives unified search, integrates the OpenVFS virtual files plugin on Linux, supports unified sharing and adds governance label handling. The tray has also been reworked, with logout and account removal moving to the settings menu. The 34.0 line continues in parallel with backported fixes, most recently 34.0.5.

Earlier releases moved CryptPad forward mainly by bumping the editors it wraps. This one changes its own core and its office supplier, and the Euro-Office switch fits the integration direction seen in the opendesk build: CryptPad as one component of a European sovereign workplace stack. Shipping the server as a separate package also makes it easier to embed and operate on its own.
Expect a fix release on the Autumn line soon, as every seasonal release in this window has had one or two, and a server rewrite raises the odds of upgrade issues.

After months of File Provider repair on macOS, the client is widening again. Linux virtual files now have a path that can switch from classic sync dynamically, which closes a gap with the other desktop platforms, and lock-file handling keeps extending to design tools such as AutoCAD, InDesign and Affinity. Assistant and governance labels also bring more of the platform into the desktop client.
Expect 35.0.x patches to follow the same backport pattern as 34.0, with the new Linux OpenVFS path the most likely source of early fixes. The notes give no sign of what a next feature release will prioritize.
