◆Current state
The 34.0.0 line finally went stable after four release candidates spread over six weeks, while 33.0.x and 4.0.x kept receiving backported fixes in parallel. The macOS work dominates: a switch to QtWebEngine, Server Actions integration for the File Provider extension, a consolidated Xcode workspace, a FinderSync fix, and macOS 12 dropped from support. A new settings UI and hardware-certificate end-to-end encryption fixes round out the user-visible side. Every RC restates the full cumulative changelog, so the same pull requests appear in four consecutive entries.
◆Where it's heading
macOS is where the investment is going, and it is structural rather than cosmetic — the File Provider extension, not the legacy sync folder, is becoming the real integration point, and dropping macOS 12 buys the APIs to keep going. The long RC series with one candidate pulled for a critical macOS defect says that platform rework is the risky part of the release. Windows and Linux work in this window is almost entirely fixes and backports.
◆Prediction
Expect 34.0.x patches to concentrate on macOS fallout from the QtWebEngine and File Provider changes, and the 33.0 branch to keep taking backports for another cycle or two before it is retired.
