What is Code.org?

Code.org moves Adaptive progress to the server and brings CSV uploads back to AI Lab.

Code.org ships near-daily, with most user-facing work in AI Lab's decision-tree trainer, the Adaptive pathway and its AI Tutor, and a native quiz builder. v2026-10-17 keeps Adaptive pathway progress on the server with step-level progress endpoints and milestones, restores AI Lab 2's dataset picker and CSV upload, and adds a multiple-select question model to quizzes. Sprite Lab's port to Lab2 also picked up UI revisions and a repeat-every block.

What is Open edX?

Open edX maintenance branches carrying security backports, not features

The visible stream is release-branch commits rather than named releases, and the recent ones are all corrective. Two July entries backport the same fix — an authorization gap where CourseTeamManageAPIView required only authentication, letting any enrolled learner call the endpoint. Earlier entries block SSRF in SAML metadata fetching by validating the URL against loopback, link-local, reserved and private ranges, add LTI launch logging, and normalize block structure keys.

Code.org moves Adaptive progress to the server and brings CSV uploads back to AI Lab.

◆ Current state

Code.org ships near-daily, with most user-facing work in AI Lab's decision-tree trainer, the Adaptive pathway and its AI Tutor, and a native quiz builder. v2026-10-17 keeps Adaptive pathway progress on the server with step-level progress endpoints and milestones, restores AI Lab 2's dataset picker and CSV upload, and adds a multiple-select question model to quizzes. Sprite Lab's port to Lab2 also picked up UI revisions and a repeat-every block.

◆ Where it's heading

AI Lab is moving from training mechanics to explaining and feeding the model, now with students' own CSV data, while Adaptive gains server-tracked progress that teachers and reports can rely on. Quizzes keep widening their question types, and Sprite Lab joins the Lab2 migration. The pieces point to one tracked student experience ready for classroom-scale use rather than playtests.

◆ Prediction

Expect teacher-facing progress views built on Adaptive's new step milestones, alongside more Lab2 ports. The entries do not give a date for a broader classroom release of AI Lab or Adaptive.

Open edX maintenance branches carrying security backports, not features

◆ Current state

The visible stream is release-branch commits rather than named releases, and the recent ones are all corrective. Two July entries backport the same fix — an authorization gap where CourseTeamManageAPIView required only authentication, letting any enrolled learner call the endpoint. Earlier entries block SSRF in SAML metadata fetching by validating the URL against loopback, link-local, reserved and private ranges, add LTI launch logging, and normalize block structure keys.

◆ Where it's heading

This window shows the maintenance side of a large deployment-driven platform: fixes land on master and are backported across named release branches (teak, ulmo, verawood) so operators on older lines get them. The security items share a shape — endpoints and integrations that trusted their callers more than they should. Nothing here indicates feature direction, because feature work does not surface in this branch stream.

◆ Prediction

Expect continued backporting across the active named branches, since the same authorization fix already landed on two of them within a minute of each other. What ships in the next named release is not visible from these entries.
